Marriage Info
« on: Tuesday 13 September 05 23:29 BST (UK) »
Can anyone find the marriage info between Thomas B Jones (  to Clare Williams around 1912-1914. Their first son was born abt 1915, so I think the above dates are ok.
I have looked everywhere, but cannot find any records of any of the family, so the marriage might help.
I would appreciate your help

Hi Joy,

There is only one marriage in the BMD idexes for a CLAIRE WILLIAMS (None for CLARE) in the period 1900-1920 and that took place in 1918.  The husband's name was Price so I don't think it's the one you're looking for.  No DEMAIDS in the index either.  There are 38 marriages between THOMAS JONES and WILLIAMS but none of these Thomases have the middle initial B.

I think your best bet might be to find the birth record - the mother's maiden name is included in the index for births from this period so it should be possible to narrow it down.  What was their first son's name?

Thanks for the info. It is possible that Jones left out the name Benjamin .Their first sons name was Dennis R., then
Brynley V, then Ronald Thomas. I think Dennis was born first because they were all killed in WW2 and in the Commonwealth War Graves it said he was 30. I just received the info re their deaths, so I am in the process of sending to the UK for the Certs. My problem is the family, where are they?
Can you tell me where you got the Williams and Jones from and can I possibly look at them
Thanks again

Sorry
I forgot to say, that I am unable to find the birth record because we have no idea who Clares parents were. She has a sister Roselyn, Olive and a brother Aubrey, but all the family except an 87 year old daughter Clare Elaine Jones who I also cannot find (are no more.)
I am trying to do this for her so that she can have some peace.

Hi Joy,

I think I've found the marriage!

June Quarter 1914

Hereford 6a 1194

Jones, Thomas B
Williams, Clara

I was looking in Wales and didn't think to check just the other side of the border and it looks as though Clare was in fact Clara!

I got the information from a new site that I've just started looking at that has a searchable transcription index for the BMD indexes for England and Wales from 1866-1920.
www.familyrelatives.org

I've just subscribed and was looking for a project to test it out when I saw your post.

Alan,
the info looks good. Is there a reference for me to look at
June Quarter 1914

Hereford 6a 1194

Jones, Thomas B
Williams, Clara
or is the no 6a 1194 the page No. It looks right because he had a dental practice in Glouces.
Can you use your web site to search.
Thanks for your effort.

Hi Joy,

Unfortunately, the only way to get more information is to order a copy of the certificate which costs 7 Pounds (about $13).  You can do this online at:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificate/index.asp#0

The reference I gave you should be enough to get the right certificate 6a is the volume number and 1194 is the page number.  If you do decide to order on line, be careful not to select "Priority Service" as this is much more expensive.  You should get a certificate by mail to the US within about 2 weeks of ordering on line.

The marriage certificate will have the addresses at which Thomas and Clara were living at the time of their marriage, their occupations and the names of their fathers.  With this information it should be relatively easily to trace the family back through the census records.

Alan,
thanks for the info. I cannot order online because GRO will not accept US credit cards. The last time I ordered from the GRO it too two-three months, three letters, emails and then they sent the wrong one. Could I not get it from the REG district in Herefordshire?
Not sure how this is done but it has got to be better than the GRO.
Again thanks for your help.
This is wonderful news

Hi Joy!

The GRO accepts Visa -  Mastercard and a few others!!
It's a bit of a pain - using credit cards and debit cards - because of all the information they ask for - but they will take them  :D
However if you don't mind the wait - you could write to Herefordshire and go from there!

Good Luck!!
