Fancy a challenge?! - Where did this baby go? Vanished! Soton 1911.
« on: Wednesday 12 February 25 18:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have only found the birth record for a baby girl born Soton 1911. After that there is nothing: no marriage, no census - but no death record either. Would be grateful for some sleuthing help!

What I know:
Baby GIRL: Sydney KERR. b. 27 Nov 1911. Soton. To father Thomas Russell KERR and mother Joanna KERR Nee CRIMMINS.  Birth record attached.

Where I have searched:
Anc, FindMyPast, GRO, FreeBMD & Scotland's People for marriages and deaths.
Family moved about, particularly from Liverpool area (but father born in Glasgow) so have searched Soton, Liverpool/Birkenhead and Scotland.

Who else I have searched to try to find her:
Father died on the Titanic (crew). Mother Joanna remarried 1914 Soton to Michael MURPHY. This link states they moved to Birkenhead and Joanna died in 1961.
But I cannot find Joanna or her second husband Michael on the 1921 Census or 1939 Register. So I can't find the daughter Sydney Kerr through them either.
https://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/titanic-victim/thomas-kerr.html

She has an aunt called Sydney Bruce KERR and a GM called Sydney BRUCE. So there are three different Sydneys in the family. Other trees exist for the other two, but not for Sydney KERR.

Help would be much appreciated!

This link states they moved to Birkenhead and Joanna died in 1961.

Johanna Murphy 70 June qtr 1961 Birkenhead
Vol 10a  Pge 11

1939 entry under Johanna - wrong couple.

Have you followed up the 1924 Murphy/Crimmins birth?

Thanks Carole, yes I had already found Joanna's death record but it doesn't lead me much closer to what happened to Sydney -  unless we can find a 1921 Census, 1939 Reg or death record for her in Birkenhead as well? I have not had any luck.

SS below of what I have for the mother so far.

Please see my reply - the 1961 death was not Joanna - it was Johanna & if you check the 1921 & 1939 entries she was not married to Michael nor was her maiden name Crimmins

Thank you Carole. I have now removed the 1961 death and burial in Birkenhead.

Sometimes our Joanna is written as Johanna

I am not sure that the 1924 Murphy / Crimmins (Vincent) is related, because when Joanna and her second husband Michael Murphy had their son Peter in Nov 1914, the mother's former surname was given as Kerr. See SS.

Thoughts?

PS: I also tried to find the younger stepbrother Peter in the 1921 Census as a way to find his older stepsister Sydney. Nothing.

An online tree suggests the name Cecilia.

Try searching the 1921 census for Cecilia with a mother Johanna in Southampton.

Try searching the 1921 census for Cecilia with a mother Johanna in Southampton.

Thank you, I had seen that and had found a record at Long Edge Rd in Soton on the 1921 Census, but dismissed it because
a) her name was Sydney, just Sydney; there was no Cecilia in the name
b) the father's name for the 1921 census record that comes up is Peter Murphy, not Michael Murphy.
