Once again I would appreciate some help I have a relative who married in 1922 and I thought that it was straight forward until I have downloaded all available documents my grand uncle John Henderson (1902) married a Catherine/Cathleen McElhinney (1904) in Cambuslang and she states her parents are Henry McElhinney and Teresa Campbell , plenty of permutations on McElhinney but not many for Henry and I found the family easy enough in the 1921 census with plenty of siblings to cross reference with and it seems they came from Ireland Donegal according to the Census and sure enough finding them was very easy plenty of records for the family including 1911 census and all births, deaths and marriage of parents but Teresa’s surname was McCallion. The marriage in 1901 clearly states McCallion spinster, fast forward to 1935 and the death of Henry McElhinney, Teresa’s husband and it states married to Teresa Campbell she herself is the informant and again her death 1943 the informant this time is her son Neil/Neal McElhinney and he states her parents are Neil Campbell and Bridget Lafferty. So I spent condsiderable time looking up the surname Campbell with nothing fitting so went back again to Catherine/Cathleen (1904) her death in 1978 index is now saying mmn McCallion the next sibling Neil McElhinney (1906) is adamant that his mothers surname is Campbell as he states this in 1929 on his marriage and it is on his 1988 death index as well as him saying this on his mothers death cert in 1943 all the later siblings after Catherine/Cathleen and Neil all have their mothers surname as McCallion, I presume through all the certificates that this must be the one and same family as the addresses all tie in with the time period (I have posted a A4 of some of the certs to show this). I cant see there being a second marriage say to a Teresa Campbell as the 1901 marriage clearly says McCallion and the children born after the first 2 eldest all have mmn McCallion (as does the records for 1st two mentioned) there was 2 born in Cambuslang in 1917/19 and both have mmn McCallion the only discrepancy is the stated marriage for parents on both certs is a year later on 4 june 1902 not the 9 june 1901 as per the Irish record.
I hope someone may have an explanation or even a theory that would fit or maybe point to me that after all this digging I have been once again following the wrong family. Garngad (ps I would rather be wrong than attribute the wrong family to my mistakes).
