Stirlingshire / Thomas WHITE m. Elizabeth SINCLAIR 1834
« on: Monday 12 November 07 12:51 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning all.

Can anybody help with a date of death in Falkirk, please?

Thomas WHITE married Elizabeth SINCLAIR in June 1834 in Falkirk.  He had two children Christian (1836) and Marion (1838).  The same Thomas - probably - married Jean McCLAY in 1841 also in Falkirk.

Is there a memorial showing the death of Elizabeth?

Northumberland / Robert Robson - emigrant to Canada
« on: Sunday 16 September 07 18:52 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon all

Robert ROBSON emigrated to Canada between 1855-1875 (I think) from Northumberland.   While there he was in touch with his 'cousin' Thomas WATSON who lived in Parkhill, Ontario.  Thomas was a harness- maker but had emigrated in 1865 at the age of 20. He was born at Colwell and lived with his parents at Fell House until he emigrated.

Thomas WATSON's mother is known to be Sarah ROBSON and she had several brothers who could be Robert's father.  My ROBSONs - ie Sarah's brothers and sisters - are known to have lived close to Stamfordham and Chollerton - Bingfield, Todridge etc.

From the Canadian side, Robert ROBSON is known to have had at least two children Sarah (who married a Dr. Pearson in 1887) and William.  William is known to have had a son Carol.  Carol was married when his photograph was taken in Milford, Michigan in 1960.  I THINK Carol may have been born in 1907 (via IGI)

Does anyone have a Robert ROBSON who went over to Canada from Northumberland about the right sort of time?
Does anyone have the three generations of North American ROBSON's in their tree?   That is Robert and William and Carol (who was alive and about 50 in 1960).
Does a marriage between a Sarh ROBSON and C. B PEARSON in 1887 nean anything?  Canada?  Michigan?

I am checking for possibilities using the English census returns but am not as familiar with  Canadian / US options.

Can anybody help in anyway please?

Staffordshire / Robert Hudson died 1918, buried Audley
« on: Saturday 15 September 07 15:45 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon all.
I wonder if there are any descendants doing research on Robert HUDSON and his wife Hannah WATSON.  They both died in Staffordshire and are buried at Audley, I understand.  Hannah died in 1890 and Robert in 1918 after remarrying (Amy Bailey).  They and their large family came to Staffs.  from Northumberland about 1881.

In the 1970s I obtained a great deal of information from their grandchildren /great grandchild.  My direct family link is with Hannah.

Is anybody linked to this family or think they may be?  I may be able to help.

Mayo / Thomas CURRAN - Solicitor - Annagh
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 19:20 BST (UK)  »
Good evening all :)

I am very much a newcomer to the Irish board.  I am trying to get to grips with the diferences and would like to ask your help in suggesting the next step(s), please.

I have found the family in the 1901 census index provided by Roger McDonnell:-
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/

My reading is that in the Townland of Annagh in the Parish of Aghamore, Thomas Curran aged 40 and a Farmer/Solicitor was living with his wife Bridget (30) and his /their children - The one of most interest is Lillie who is 9.

I believed the family lived in Ballyhaunis.  Where can I establish if this is correct?  Can I find out where they were born?  Are the questions that were asked the same as on the English/Scottish/Welsh ones?  I tried to see whether IGI www.familysearch.org had a marriage between Thomas Curran and Bridget.   Nothing came up.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Berkshire / Beattie in Bracknell 1820s
« on: Tuesday 12 June 07 15:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello Listers.
I have been rooting out Beatties for many years now.  Beattie is very much a Scottish name so what has Bracknell got to do with anything? :)

There are two memorials in a churchyard in Dumfreshire.  On one "'Walter Beattie died at Bracknell, Berkshire 28th March 1827 aged 42". On the other, adjacent to it, "'Walter Beattie their son  died at Bracknell, Berkshire March 6th 1827 aged 77 years"'.
The elder Walter is uncle of the other.  Their family is known from other inscriptions on the same stones, the same graveyard and other source material.

As far as I am aware there was no family connection with Bracknell.  The area from which they came is Eskdale, a steep sided valley to the east of the county,  The town in the lower part of the valley is Langholm.  The valley was very much sheep counttry.

Can anyone suggest what the attraction of Bracknell or Berkshire may have been at that period - very early 1800s - please?   North of England I could understand easily - but Bracknell is some 320 miles from Langholm.   My 'gadget' indicates a 5 hour car journey by modern roads / motorways.

If anybody knows they are related to a Walter Beattie from Bracknell at that period, please get in touch  :)

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Saddleworth MIs
« on: Thursday 03 May 07 22:58 BST (UK)  »
I have the following records from the Saddleworth Burial Register (Transcription, Manchester Central Library).

24th April 1736   Anna Ainsworth of Calf Hey buried
3rd July 1737      John Ainsworth of Calf Hey buried.

No age or relationship.

If the MIs have been transcribed at St Chads, would it be possible to check if these two people occur in them and provide details of any age or relationship to others and their names?  If they have been transcribed/published where could I see/purchase a copy, please?

I think the male surname may be incorrect  :D

Would somebody be able to check this against the original record, please,  or a transciption made elsewhere?   I think the above female surname just may be wrong  :D

« on: Wednesday 18 April 07 19:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello again.
Same chap as before (Uniform identification #1).  The Scotsman is not particularly important but I just thought that to an expert the two together may add something.  What, I hear you ask  :)

Many thanks in anticipation
