Norfolk Lookup Requests / Alice Elizabeth Bullock
« on: Monday 19 August 19 22:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I wonder if you can help.. I have a relation called Alice Elizabeth Bullock born 1882 in Banningham, Norfolk and I have hit a brick wall with her.. I can find her up until 1901 when she was working as a servant in Aylsham but after that I have struggled. Just wondering whether anybody would be able to find her in the 1911 census or the 1939 register or maybe she married or died before 1911.. I am at a loss! Thanks ever so much for any help 🙂

World War Two / War Diaries question
« on: Friday 31 May 19 11:18 BST (UK)  »
I received my latest addition of WDYTYA magazine today and there was a section on D-Day and WW2 military records.. In this article, it said how to order WW2 military records and mentioned war diaries.. my question is this. I have a relation who was in the Lincolnshire Regiment who died in a battle following D-Day called Operation Charnwood.. I have his military records and I have visited his grave in Ranville War Cemetery.. I have looked on the National Archives page and they do have diaries for the Lincolnshire Regiment.. Realistically what are the chances these war diaries will tell me something I don’t already know? I did some volunteer work transcribing WW1 diaries once, are the WW2 diaries similar? Many thanks.

Norfolk / Lingwood Poor Law Institution
« on: Sunday 13 May 18 22:23 BST (UK)  »
I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the Lingwood Poor Law Institution? I have just found my great great grandfather Abraham Burgess there on the 1939 register as a patient. Is this and Blofield Workhouse one and the same as when I search for the institution, Blofield Workhouse keeps popping up.
Many thanks!

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Henry Compton
« on: Sunday 21 January 18 12:57 GMT (UK)  »
My Great x 4 Grandfather Henry Compton marrried my Great x 4 Grandmother Theodosia Smith (born 1786 in London)  on the 16th April 1808 in St Mary, Putney, London. I have managed to find quite a few records for Theodosia but cannot find any for Henry apart from christening records for their children. I don’t know where/when he was born or where/when he died. On one census entry for Theodosia in 1861 she is listed as married and not widowed. I was just wondering whether anybody could shed some light on Henry for me..

Many thanks!

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Page family Great Shelford
« on: Monday 15 January 18 20:09 GMT (UK)  »
I was just wondering whether anyone local to Great Shelford would be so kind as to pop into the churchyard if they are passing and see if there are any gravestones for any members of the Page family from the 1800’s. I have Page family ancestors who lived in Great Shelford and I have toyed with the idea of visiting where they came from and I was just curious if there are any gravestones. I don’t think there would be as they did not have much money but you never know. I live close enough to be able to get there in a few hours but just wanted to check whether there would be anything to see as it is a long journey if there isn’t.

Just wondering if anyone can help at all.. I am struggling to find my Great x 3 Grandparents Jonathan and Harriett Barguss's marriage.. I have searched on Ancestry more than once and just can't seem to find it, I would love to find out what my Great x 3 Grandmother's maiden name was. I have Jonathan's birth year as approx 1808 in Clifton, Oxfordshire and Harriett approx 1810 in Oxfordshire. Their first child is born in 1832 in Clifton Hampden, Oxfordshire so I would imagine they were married shortly before that. The problem I have quite often is the spelling of Barguss.. i have seen so many variants in my research..I think this could be one of the reasons I cannot find it. Many thanks for any help you can give me.

I was given a photo the other day by my Auntie which was amongst my Grandad's possessions.

As usually seems to be the case with photos I acquire, there is no name or date written on the back so who it is is a bit of a mystery, I have an idea it may be my Great Great Grandmother Emily Hudson who was born in 1858 in Norfolk. I think this photo may possibly be the late 1800's early 1900's making her about 40. Would this be the right sort of time period?

Many thanks

Angela

WWII In Memoriam / Private Sidney Hudson 977178 8th July 1944 Aged 24
« on: Sunday 13 August 17 12:22 BST (UK)  »
Sidney was my Grandad's cousin and he was posted with the Lincolnshire Regiment. When Sidney left for France, my Grandad (nicknamed RT) saw him off at Aylsham Train Station and the last thing Sidney said to him was 'Well this is it RT, you won't see me again' and unfortunately he was right Sidney did not return. He died on the 8th July 1944 in Herouville as a result of Operation Charnwood part of Operation Overlord and is buried in Ranville War Cemetery. Me and my father are very fortunate to be visiting Sidney's grave for the first time in three weeks when we go on a D-Day landing beaches tour and I plan to take a poppy cross which has been on my Grandad's grave and place it on Sidney's, they were both a similar age and I like to think that they were close. Will definitely be a poignant visit.
