I would love some tidy up and repair of damage to this photo of my G-Grandfather please. NO COLOUR THANKS.
I know the portrait was taken in the 1880s, but any help to refine this date is welcome. My research puts Kyles photographer at this 29 Newmarket St Address, in Ayr in the 1880s. John was born 1860 and his family were from Troon. In the 1881 census John is living in Ayr, working as a tailor. There is no wedding ring, so it is before 1888 when he married and then moved to Glasgow. It could be an engagement photo (aged about 27), but he has rather a “baby face” and youthful looking hands - so perhaps he is early 20s. Opinions sought. Is it possible to refine the date by his clothes?

Hello restorers, this one is not too faded (Hooray!), but please, are you able to do a few touch-ups  in spots, and is it possible to get rid of the yellowing splodges on the white dress?
      It is only since I have scanned this photo and have taken a closer look, that I have decided it is a wedding photo. I believe Alice is holding a small bridal bouquet. There are no wedding rings on display, but she is dressed in white. John and Alice married in 1888, Toowoomba - Alice was aged 22, and John 30.

Dear Restorers, Here’s another faded photo that would benefit from your expert help, to bring back some of the missing detail. No colour required, please.
The couple are my great grandparents (from the German/Danish branch) - Albert and Catherine with 1st child Ann (born 1881), who is riding their pet woolly marsupial bear. It’s a treasured photo, being the only image we have of Albert – it seems my male ancestors were all camera shy.

[Historic note: The “woolly marsupial bear” was a favoured family companion in outback Australia in the mid-late1800s, but was generally superseded by the more aggressive “drop-bear” in the early 20th century.]

Bernard & Maria with children Louis, Bernard jnr & baby Elizabeth – Charters Towers, Central Queensland; ca.1884.
I am afraid this is one of my very faded old photos, and I hope you clever restorers can do something to improve it. I hope it is not too late to rescue the faces of the 2 boys before they disappear. I know nothing can find baby Elizabeth’s face – I suspect she was wriggling, and her face was just a white blur even when the photo was new.

This is my Grandma Clark born 1894. She looks to be about 2 or 3 years old here. I would love for someone to give her a bit of a clean up please.
Does anyone else think those massive boots look ridiculous – surely too big for her to walk in! Would they have put her into great big boots to help her stand up, and be still for the photo?

 I think it is probably "Preces" - Latin for prayers. Can anyone confirm?

Hello again kind RC restorers. Here is another from our “historic album”. I would love you to work your magic on this tin-type of my great-grandparents’ wedding. The original is smaller than a playing card, and very dark. It is a treasured photo, being the only image we have of g-grandfather Tom. The pink colouring on the cheeks is in the original photo – but I would prefer no other colour to be added please.
Now that I have scanned it (and can enlarge it), I can see that much of the detail is quite distinct, but there is a bit of surface damage. It is very dark however, and I wonder if it is possible to make the image lighter and brighter. I imagine the murky and shaded tone is something to do with the tin-type medium.

Tom and Mary married in April 1883 on a sheep station on the Darling Downs, Queensland, where Tom (32 years) was a shearer and station hand, and Mary (21 years) was employed as a house servant. They are wearing black armbands in remembrance of Tom’s younger brother who had died about 10 days earlier. Mary is the sister to “Edwin in Sydney” and “Milly and Martha”, who you met and restored beautifully in my previous posts.

My grandmother Clara and her older sister Ada were born in Georgetown, North Queensland. From the ages of the girls, I’d say the photo was taken about 1896-97.  It looks as if the photographer has stepped outside and pulled some branches off a gum tree to festoon around the studio. :D
In the lower centre there is a crack in the card, and like many of my photos, it is rather faded and a bit spotted. I hope one of you talented restorers might like to have a go at improving it. Thanks.
