The Common Room / GRO Download Digital Image
« on: Wednesday 03 January 24 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Happy New Year everyone !

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I ordered two death certificates in digital image very late last night, received a payemnt receipt and a confirmation which said the following:

Your order has been successfully sent to GRO for processing.

Customers are advised to read the service announcements on our website.

Please find below the order reference details.

I've checked my account and the orders aren't showing there.   I have two questions:

a)   Does the order show as soon as you make it or does it show when ready to download.
b)   Any idea how long it takes - on the birth certs I've ordered digital images of its been practically instantaneous.

Thank you all

Caernarvonshire / Struggling to find family
« on: Sunday 24 September 23 22:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I can't seem to be able to find this family before 1939 (other than the mother in 1911); have tried both FindMyPast and A**y.   I wonder if someone could have a look for me as I'm running out of spellings / options ???   Here they are

TYDDYN PERTHI, GWYRFAI, (Nebo/Carmel area)
Richard Thomas 22/12/1892 Quarryman
Catherine Thomas (nee Jones) 30/05/1895 Home duties
Idwal Thomas 23/05/1917 Quarryman
Elfed M Thomas 26/06/1918 Quarryman
Nancy M Thomas (then Walters) 16/12/1920 Waitress

This info is from the 1939 (I hope I can publish if not please mods please let me know and I will amend. )

I know they didn't move from the area and had several other children after 1922 but they are redacted in 1939 so I need to go through births, etc which takes some time so  I haven't recorded in my tree yet...but nothing seems to come up for the older ones.  I'm going to go through electoral registers now to see what comes up.

If someone fancies having a look around please do.

Thank you for looking

The Common Room / What is Geneanet
« on: Tuesday 05 September 23 17:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place but I've recently started to receive hints from Geneanet through Ancestry.   One has a lot of info on a brick wall that I have - lots of the same info that I do.

Could someone explain it to me.

Thank you

Denbighshire / Jonothan Jones b 1834 Cefn, Denbighshire
« on: Saturday 04 March 23 18:23 GMT (UK)  »
I’m looking for Jonathan Jones b. around 1834 parents I believe to be Thomas Jones and Mary ?.

I don't have a public tree on A* but will try to pop one up later this evening when I'm on my own laptop.

I can find him in the later census’ as well as his marriage on the 5th June 1853.   I do not have the cert as I only found it today but I’m pretty sure he’s the right one.

The children I have seen are Thomas, 1856, Mary A 1859, Edward 1862 (my OH great grandfather), Elizabeth, 1864, Miriam 1867, Jonathan 1870 and Ishmael 1870.

I’ve been able to track Edward’s family down to the present day as we are lucky enough to have an Aunt who is still alive in her 90’s and is happy to chat about the Jones’ family.   For info my OH descends from Edward’s son David Hughes Jones born 01/04/1900.  I've already discovered that one of Edward's sisters married another sisters husband after her death - how do I put that in A* .

Have also been able to go back a couple of generations on Edward’s wife side as the marriages are in the parish registers and one of her witnesses was her sister.  Parents were I believe John and Jane Hughes in the Llantysilio Parish.

Anything you can find out I would really appreciate – I know that there are a few censuses missing around Ruabon but not sure which ones.

PS - the areas seem to be Cefn and Ruabon in Denbighshire and Pentredwr, LLantysilio, Denbighshire with a few of the really early ones around Corwen, Merionethshire.

Thank you very much

Merionethshire / Marriage 1866 Ffestiniog
« on: Sunday 26 February 23 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon

William Lloyd and Elliw Jones: Ffestiniog 4th quarter of 1866.

I was wondering if it was possible to see the place of marriage whether Register office or Church from the GRO index ?

For your information.

William Lloyd born around 1843, Mochdra, (Llandrillo) Denbighshire
Elliw Jones (Howell born around 1848, Llandanwg (Dyffryn) Merionethshire

I do have their death dates but unfortunately not to hand, they were buried in Capel Rehoboth, Harlech where there are several other members of Elliw's family.

Their children were:
Robert, John Howell, Mary Ann (my great- grandmother), Jane, Moses and Gwen.

Bride's father was John Howell and she was frequently mis-transcribed as Ellin;  I know quite a lot about the bride's family but have got stuck on the groom.   So decided to order the marriage certificate to see if he had a father on it.  Several trees on A** have him being born on Ffestiniog but he is consistent in the census' as being born in Denbighshire naming Mochdra in one and Llandrillo in the other.   So I do not agree with the information without more proof. I've had a good trawl through the 1851 census and can't see a good match for him.

If you find a tree on Ancestry called Bare Bones tree thats my ancestry public tree.  I do have a much more detailed one but I do not publish it.
Thank you

Armed Forces / WW2 UK Military Records moving to Natiobs Archive
« on: Saturday 03 December 22 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure if anyone else has posted about this but very interesting news but the records will be locked for 115 years from each individuals date of birth.
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/about/news/mod-records-project/?fbclid=IwAR1M2sKYnEeZwUyfGv_m_lRqUtBEnbAjRWJzGieIeGFPeA9oDpHt6k_8gVs

I would hope that where the individual is deceased that you would be able to apply to view on production of proof of relationship and death.   Otherwise, for example it would be 2039 before I could see my deceased father’s records.   Whereas using the current system they would be available.

The Common Room / Church or Register Office wedding ? Help please
« on: Wednesday 03 November 21 13:21 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon everyone a very quick question please.

Is it possible to distinguish whether a marriage took place in a church or a register office from the Marriage Index.

Great grandparents married in the Ffestiniog registration district during the Sept quarter of 1879.

Very easily found - Jeremiah Jones and Margaret Roberts both on FreeBMD and FindMyPast.  There's no parish marriage on FindMyPast but the area is very hit and miss as to which parish is there and what dates are on it.

Before I go to the expense of buying the certificate I thought I'd ask here to see if it was posible because if its a church wedding I still live locally enough to go and view the parish registers.

Thank you very much.

Caernarvonshire / Look up request -St Mary's Church, Dolbenmaen 1942
« on: Friday 08 October 21 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello
I wonder if anyone has access to the Marriage Register for Dolbenmaen Parish Church (St Mary's).  I've searched FindMyPast and Ancestry and I can find the Civil Marriage for the couple but not their church marriage but I do know it was at the Church because I've seen the actual entry but forgot to record the grooms details! I suspect that there is a copy of the Counterfoil books: Marriage certificates for the right year at the Archive in Caernarfon but can't get there for a while unfortunately.

The marriage took place in the last quarter 1942 at St Mary's Dolbenmaen between William S Williams and Mary E Roberts, the bride's father was Griffith Roberts.   One of the witnesses was Gwyneth Roberts.

If anyone is heading to the Archive in Caernarfon I would really appreciate a look up if you have time.... if anyone can find it online even better !

Thank you for your time.
