« on: Wednesday 11 October 17 12:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have a Thomas Massey who died on the 1st April 1882, in a drowning accident, aged 9, he was baptised on the 6th July 1873 at St John's church, Irlam and in the 1881 census the family were living on Heyes Rd, Cadishead, however I can't seem to find where he was buried, does anyone who may know the area suggest where I can try?, Any help much appreciated, Jean.

Thank you, that makes sense, it did say on his death certificate, he was of Gravel Lane, Salford, but it was in the hospital where he died, best wishes, Jean.

Hi, thank you for checking for me, I think the next step will be checking which newspapers are available in Salford History Museum, and thanks for the translation, best wishes, Jean.

Hi, thank you all for your replies, Thomas's wife was Mary Ann Kennedy, born 1851 in Ireland, they married on the 4 Jun 1868 in St Wilfreds Chapel, Chorlton, Manchester, I have Mary Ann in the 1861  census, living in Darwen and and all the others in Salford, until her death in 1909.
I have Thomas's birth certificate and he was born in 1839 in Salford, in 1901 his age made him born in 1830 and his death certificate listed him as 59, which was wrong, it has took me a very long time to figure out which was mine and I originally sent for the wrong one, but this one lists him as a Bricklayer, just no mention of his wife, or his son John or daughter Rose. The burial at Weaste is him, but when I contacted Agecroft cemetery where they hold the records, they told me it was a Public grave so they could not tell me a plot number, I am trying to find if there are any newspapers that may cover the area for that time to see if there is a report on the inquest, but not having much luck, also does anyone where inquest records are held?, best wishes, Jean.

Lancashire / Death & Burial of Thomas Devine-Salford

Hi, can anyone help me where to turn to next?, I have just received the death certificate for my great grandfather, Thomas Devine, who died 25th Jul 1905, on the certificate it states there was an inquest dated 28th Jul and he was buried at Weaste Cemetery on the 29th, in a public grave, so I'm told I can't find the plot number. Thomas was still married but there was no mention on his wife on the certificate, but in 1891 he was in Strangeways prison and in 1901, Salford Union Workhouse, ages are wrong on both, but occupation, as a Bricklayer, and birthplace, Salford, match. I have no census records of the two together, so presume they were living apart most of their married life. I have found on the parish records that a service was held at a local RC church before burial, would his wife have had to pay for this? and does anyone know where I can find any more information?, any help appreciated, best wishes, Jean.

Oh and as far as I know he was Roman Catholic, he married Mary Ann Kennedy on 4th June 1868 at St Wilfred's Chapel, Chorlton, Manchester, a Catholic church.

Hi, yes, Rose married Cornelius Langshaw, a Policeman, they lived at Mulgrave St, Salford, until their deaths, I just cannot find Thomas Devine's Death, if it is him in 1901 in the Salford Union workhouse, I would have expected his death to be there, but none fit, best wishes, Jean
Ps his wife Mary Ann is listed as Married in the 1891 and 1901 census and both have gone by 1911, Mary Ann died in 1909.

Hi, thank you for your reply, if this Thomas is buried in St Helen's I would doubt if he is mine, his family all lived in Salford, his wife died in 1909, there and I hope he would have been buried with her, trouble is I can't find any that match, unless he is listed under some spelling error, will keep trying, best wishes, Jean
