Good morning,

I am struggling with a few words, etc., in the following inscription.  The Bishop's transcripts are missing, but I don't believe they would help.

September 24 [1656] Richard Jackson of Holdbeck being slayed and found dead ? Howley ? was buried September the 24.

Any help with the ? marks appreciated.

Regards,

Janet

Thank you so much GR2 and Watson for a very prompt reply.

I had been swayed by Russell and totally disregarded the double 'F'.

Of cause it is Forrest.

Hi,

can you complete the transcription by deciphering the Latin ending from an 1682 All Saints' church, Batley, baptism entry.

[1682] March 30 Elizabeth D[aughter] of Samuel Birtby ?

Thank you for taking the time to help.

Regards,

Janet

I  concur with Neale1961, Carver.

The double r's in Surrey link differently, also the way in which the 'w' in Brown and the second 'w' in widower link to the 'n and e' with a curl, indicates the letter 'v' link with a curl to 'e' in Carver.

Hi g eli,
there is a baptism in East Ardsley church, less than 3 miles away, for a Jane Furness 22 Oct 1837 which would correspond with the age when Jane died.
