Yorkshire (West Riding) / Sometimes you just want to scream Part 1
« on: Monday 04 June 07 05:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Okay I've done the right thing; I've obtained the marriage certificate for my great-great grandparents Thomas Bradshaw & Maria Scholey married by at the parish church in Leeds on April 12 1857 [witnessed by Joseph & Ann Armitage].

Maria has been one of the many brickwalls that I've come up against. Census records [1861-1901] show her born in Hunslet around 1937 - the marriage certificate shows her age as 19 so that fits - there appears to be no suitable canidates on Free BDM].

So now I know that her father was Charles Scholey [a band spinner]. Armed with information I boldly go to search the census records for 1851 & 1841 and end up being unable to add to my knowledge of Maria because I can't make the pieces fit.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi

There's a Charles born 11/10/1809 christened 5-11/1809 recorded in Beckenham but his parents are Thomas & Priscilla.

Hi

I've had a similar problem with a family by the name of Wade in Hipswell Yorkshire: 5 children all linked to a mother only. Still haven't found out the truth.

Many thanks to both of you for your assistance.

It's amazing how extra eyes can pick up things you've stared at for hours.

I reckon if you took away the mistranscriptions it would take the fun out of genalogy [not!]

Much appreciated

Hi

I've found Alfred Tunnicliffe [born circa 1878 South Stockton Yorkshire] in the census records of 1881 & 1891 living in Thornaby] with his parents Alfred & Eliza. Then nothing. Have tried free BMD and can't find a death that fits. Any ideas?

Oops
I forgot to put where they were.
In 1851 they were in West Bromwich North.
In 1861 Elizabeth was in Bilston.

So where would William's death have been registered?

Hi

I'm stuck and need advice. Here's what I know:
William Tunnicliffe was born circa 1823 in Barton Staffordshire and married Elizabeth [born around 1820 in Barton Staffordshire]. They may be the ones who married in 1843 in Eccleshall Staffordshire [don't know the county at all]. They had 3 kids born in West Bromwich Alfred [1844], Charles [1847]; Hannah [1851].

William & family are in the 1851 Census. The 1861 census show Elizabeth as a widow. I checked free BMD but haven't a clue what region William's death would have been in [I must reiterate I haven't a clue about places in Staffordshire]. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately I don't think these kids are linked to Ann [she married a Wilkinson in 1878 and they had there first child in 1880] or Dorothy [who married a Grainger in 1880 and they had their first child in 1881].

I guess I better start fattening up the budgie as it's starting to look like I'll have to order certificates.
