Hi Bruce
Thank you very much for the info.   I always knew my father Norman had a sister but never knew her name.

My ancestor, John Bartlett was born in Hampshire in 1788 then in 1811 was sent to South Africa by the London Mission Society.  He married Johanna Goeyeman in 1815 and then Susanna Haarhof in 1830.  Need to know who his parents and siblings were.

Hi Ruth, I have conflicting info re Marianne's death.  I know she died in 1928 but one report says she died in Bloemfontein, the other says Transvaal.

Hi there Leanne
Thanks so much for info on Marianne's baptism.  I always assumed the Bartletts would be Church of England.  Just shows,  never "assume".

My ancestor John Bartlett was born in Hampshire in 1788 and in 1811 was sent to South Africa by the London Mission Society.  He had children by wife Johanna Goeyeman as well as Elizabeth Haarhof.  My grandmother Marianne Bartlett born in 1894 in Britstown South Africa, was a descendant of John Bartlett.  Would like to know Marianne's parents names.

My grandmother Marianne Bowie nee Bartlett died in Bloemfontein in 1928 and I presume she's buried in the Church of England section of the old Bloemfontein cemetary.  Her husband was Ritchie Taylor Bowie and her son was Norman James Bowie (my father).  I believe Marianne also had a daughter.  Would love to know her name as well as any other relatives she may have had.

Glamorganshire / Williams/Povall Cardiff

My grandparents, Rosina Williams and John William Povall married in the Parish of St. Andrew, Cardiff on 6 April 1885.  Rosina and twin sister Susey, were born in Weston Super Mare in 1866 and I think John was born in South Africa in 1858.  John's father was also John, and Rosina's father was Samuel Williams.  Why did they marry in Wales and what were their mother's names.  Rosina and John named one of their sons Arthur Lindwall Povall.  I presume Lindwall is a family name - any connection would be appreciated.

One of my grandmother's brothers was called Arthur Lindwall Povall.  The name Lindwall seems to come from Sweden. In the SA records there is the death of Arthur Tunstall Povall.  I suppose the transcriber could have mis-read the name.  I am trying to make the connection between the Povalls, some of whom were born in South Africa and Lindwall.  I presume it would be the surname of one of the mothers.
