Australia / Re: John Lloyd b1840 Glamorgan to Hobart, Tasmania

I would doubt it, as Victoria is the closest, New South Wales is north of that, and then Queensland, north of NSW. It did say the ship they travelled on The Donald McKay went via Melbourne, which is in Victoria. They travelled on the Indenture System. I am in the UK, but have been to Tasmania.
Regards.

All I could find was Thomas Lloyd aged 41 years Collier Miner; Jane Lloyd aged 37 Wool Spinner; Mary Lloyd 21 years Dairymaid; Thomas Lloyd 18 years Collier and Miner; John Lloyd 15 years Collier and Miner. All listed on the Immigration List 1841-1884. Tasmania.

Durham / Re: REED, Edward Hall (1866-1937) & Bridget 'Jetta' Gray (1868-1937)

I got the information from Findmypast, but don't know if you have access to this. As I said there is a photograph of Kenneth Reed Chipchase, and quite interesting information. If you don't have access then I can tell you the newspaper was The Shields Gazette dated 20th March 1944.
Regards.

I had a look at Margaretta Jane Chipchase -nee Reed, and found that her son Kenneth Reed Chipchase became a Surgeon, and there are reports together with a photograph of him in the newspaper recording an important role he played in the second world war when he was aged 24 years and Surgeon Lieut on the sloop Magpie. He was required to go on board another ship where a man was critically injured, and he performed an operation to save his life. Six U- boats were sunk during this conflict he was involved in. I have found the names of the three children born to Kenneth and his wife Jo, which you may already have. If not I will need to send them to you directly. (Don't put your email address or phone number on here, as it is an open forum) just let me know if you already have the information of their names.
Regards.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Trying to find a marriage.

There is a tree online that shows William's mother as Caroline Fletcher.
The tree also shows two children 1 male and 1 female, but as they are likely to still be alive their names are not given. However there is a Susan Joyce Cowell b.6th January 1955 who was adopted into the family, and who has recently died 18th April 2024.

Devon / Re: Ancestors from Devon but are buried in PEI… why?

Welcome to Rootschat!
There is a record of the family in the 1841 census showing that Thomas and Ann have two children at this point, James Guard and Elizabeth Guard.
There is also a record of James Guard marrying in Prince Edward Island in 1854, and having family there also. He was a Farmer, and I guess Thomas and Ann moved there in their later years to be with him and his family. Thomas died 14th December 1871, and Ann died 12th June 1874.

I had a look on FreeBMD for likely births and found the following; George Sept Qtr 1869 Prescott; Mary Ann Dec. Qtr. 1865 Prescott; That is the only ones I found in Prescott, however in South Shields Co Durham there is a Francis McNally Mar Qtr 1878, and  Rebecca McNally South Shields Co Durham Mar. Qtr 1876. This last one for Rebecca would have only made her 5 years old on the 1881 census, so may not be the two you are looking for.

Welcome to Rootschat!!
As you said that you had records of the family going to USA in 1882, I checked the 1881 census to see if I could find any of them. Not sure if you have already done this, but it doesn't say you have. I found all of them in The Union Workhouse School at Kirkdale except for Henry who wasn't on the list, and the girls were on a separate census to the boys. So we have Thomas (who may be a relative) aged 13yrs, Francis aged 3 yrs, so that fits in with your 1878 date for his birth, George aged 11 yrs. All born in Prescot Lancashire. The girls Mary Ann aged 13yrs, and Rebecca aged 8 yrs also born Prescot.
No sign of parents James and Rebecca though.
Regards.
