Renfrewshire / Re: 1881 greenock, renfrew

Hi Marie,
My gggrandmother was Jane Hagen who married James Emerson in County Down in 1856. They left for Scotland early 1860s and settled in Roseneath, Dunbartonshire. Jane's parents were James Hagen(farmer) & Jane Melvin. Is this the same Hagen family you are researching? I had the same problem with Jane's surname as she was listed on some certificates as Heggie!

All I know of this Patrick is his wife's name and date of their marriage. Their son also Patrick was born in Sligo in 1833 and came to Glasgow, Scotland  and married there in 1853. I have more information about these Candons or Condons as they are known now (this is my husbands family). The Patrick who came to Scotland also had a son Patrick..quite confusing!!..he died here in 1947.

Down / Re: Clough..pronounciation?

It's funny really as I would pronounce Fairclough as "cluff" not Fair-clout or Fair-cloch but Clough to me is "Cloch"  I must say though" clout" wasn't one I'd come across. It's so confusing!!

Lanarkshire / CANDON FAMILY in GLASGOW..1887-1901
« on: Wednesday 08 June 05 09:28 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information on PATRICK CANDON and wife ELLEN, Seemed to have moved house a lot, have them living in Englis St? in 1887, Charles St in 1895 & 1899, Society St in 1901/2. I found these addresses on various birth certificates of their children. Looked these streets up at Mitchell Library but they're not listed and I don't know in which area of Glasgow they are.
Hope someone can help.

Down / Re: Birth in County Down?

Thanks for your replies, I've already looked at these Emersons on this site and it's possible 2 brothers married 2 sisters although I have no information to confirm this as yet. Thanks anyway. James and his father before arriving in Scotland have been very difficult to find!

Best wishes
