Hi Clare,
I know that researching family history is an expensive pastime! However, Roots Chat is very strict in regard to copyright rules and can bar anyone who breaches them so I'm sorry I can't give you any  more information. What I can say though is that if you take out a month's membership with Find My Past you may be lucky enough to find articles regarding other ancestors. I found a few about my renegade great grandfather!
You will soon build up experience and Roots Chat is a good place to ask for information. It helped me quite a bit when I started. If I can help any more just ask.
By the way my maternal ancestors all come from St Abbs/Coldingham area. I know of Dicksons but have none in my tree. My ancestors were mainly Wilsons.

Berwickshire / Re: Looking for WARD Berwickshire
« on: Tuesday 03 February 15 18:48 GMT (UK)  »
I think that was the family that Trish found in 1851 Haltwhistle, Knarsdale, Northumberland. Charles was a Rail Labourer so they probably travelled around a fair bit. There was another child, Mary, 2 who was born Bridgestone [no idea where that was].
On FreeBMD there were deaths of a Charles Ward at Haltwhistle from Mar-Dec 1851 and of an Isabella Ward also at Haltwhistle, 1851, a Mary Ward, Haltwhistle and a Catherine Ward in Newcastle also in 1851.

Hello again, Claire,
There are articles about this in newspapers on the findmypast.co.uk website. Because of copyright I don't think I can write them out for you here.
The articles were in the Daily Record, Glasgow, Lanarkshire on the 22 Nov 1916 and in the Southern Reporter, Selkirk on the 23 Nov 1916 and, yes, as you suspected, he did drown in the harbour.

Hello Claire,
If you downloaded the certificate from the scotlandspeople website this is what they say to do to view the register:

'How to view an RCE

Select a statutory image as normal.
If there is an RCE attached to the record, a red View RCE button will appear. Click View RCE to view the relevant RCE. Remember that this will cost you 2 credits.
PLEASE NOTE RCEs are mapped to the relevant page in the statutory register and not to the specific entry. If there are multiple RCEs on the register page, the database will return the first RCE on the page, which may not be the one you are interested in. To view other RCEs on the register page, simply hit the View Page After button. You will not be charged further.
Once you have viewed the RCE, hit Leave RCE to return to the original register page.'

I hope this works for you, otherwise you would have to contact the office directly.
Good luck,
Rae

Unsure if this is your family but worth keeping a note of it. You may already have this information.

George's father's name was Thomas Bebbington and Jane's father was James Vernon.

Ethel, daughter, 14, Dressmaker
George, son, 10
Clyde, son, 9
Harriet, daughter, 6

William, son, 2
All born Northwich, Cheshire. George, Clyde and Harriet were scholars.

Inverness / Re: James Macdonald born 1821 christened 13Dec1821

Here are some of the James' with Clachnaharry connection that I have found but the age is all over the place!
I have found a James in 1841 Clachnaharry, with an Ann Macdonald and child James, 1. His occupation was given as BB [Boat Builder?]
In 1851 Clachnaharry there was a James, 35, Ships Carpenter, born Clachnaharry with ]wife, Ann, 34 born Clachnaharry and children Jane [says 19 but think it should be 9], Donald, 5, Hannah, 3, and John 2mo.
In 1861 there was a James on board the vessel, Inverness-shire, in Northumberland. His age was given as 32.
This could be James with wife, Ann Mackay but can't find a marriage for them.
This may/may not be your family.

Thank you so much for the link to this wonderful resource. I have found the entry for Donald and will contact the Moderator of the site for the inscription. The next few days will find me glued to the site searching for many other families in the areas it covers!

Rae
