Hello Marigold

Thank you for contacting me re Percy Bardy and the Cantillon family.

I am researching the Bardy family from York.  Percy Bardy was the son of Robert Bardy and Betsy Ann Johnson.  Percy married Victoria May Cantillon on 14th September 1918 at Farnham Register Office (I have a copy of their marriage certificate).  Percy was aged 27 and Victoria 21, residence given for both of them at time of marriage is Lion Brewery, Guildford Road, Ash.  Percy's occupation is given as Fitter and Turner.  Witnesses = A Cathrall and T H Cantillon.  As far as I can ascertain, Percy and Victoria had no children but if you can confirm that it would be very helpful.

Robert Bardy was born 1842 Knaresborough and was the son of Samuel Bardy and Hannah Ingleson.  Robert married Betsy Ann Johnson on 13th March 1871 in Arlesey, Bedfordshire (IGI).  Robert died 15.6.1930 and is buried in York Cemetery.  Betsy died 28.2.1896 aged 46 of Phthisis and is also buried York Cemetery.

Percy was their youngest child.  There was also Beatrice Ann Johnson Bardy b. 1879 York, Ada Bardy b. 1882 York and Horace Bardy b. 1886 York.

On 1911 census Percy is aged 20 living with his brother Horace in York but it seems he was also in the Army Reserve (Special Reservists) from 1910.  His next of kin is given as Robert (father) and Horace (brother).  It was probably while he was on service as a Reservist that his duties took him 'down south' (Aldershot) where he met Victoria!

I have Victoria's parents as Adam Cantillon and Anna Herley.  From the 1881 census, it would appear that Adam was born Velflynin, Limerick, Ireland.  On 1901 census I have Adam and family living Aldershot which is, of course, an army town.  I have no information on Adam's parentage or indeed before the 1881 census.

I have Anna Herley born 1856 and her parents as Henry Herley and Hannah Carter.  I also have a second marriage for her to a Joseph Cathrall in 1908, the year that Adam died (she didn't waste much time!).

Are you by any chance a member of Genes Reunited?  I have my tree on that site and could open it up for you.

I note you say that Victoria was your Great Aunt.  Which of her siblings are you descended from, please?

I very much look forward to hearing further from you.

With kind regards.

Renfrewshire / Joseph Gibb - Marriage ?
« on: Sunday 21 April 13 23:22 BST (UK)  »
Is anyone able to check a marriage in Scotland, please?  I have a Joseph Gibb aged 4 born Greenock on 1861 census living Greenock, West Renfrewshire (can't find him on 1871 census).  On 1881 census he is aged 24 married to Christina living Skelmersdale, Lancashire.  Christina is down as born Scotland and is aged 24.

Two of their children have middle name Sommerville which just might be Christina's surname!  Looks like they married late 1870s.   Is anyone able to help please with this limited information.

With grateful thanks.

Hello Davros123

"It would seem that Mitchell Street was a branch of the Salvation Army mothers hospital in the Ancoats area of Manchester; this information came from the Manchester County records Office."

This information was given to me by 3merrylads (above).

Hope this is of some help to you.

Kind regards.

Hello Cfurman0922

Sorry for the delay but have been away visiting family for the New Year.

I am researching the Bardy family from York, Yorkshire, England.  Alice Bardy married Harrison Appleby 1900 Darlington.  Her parents were Henry Bardy (born Knaresborough) and Lucy Slack (born Doncaster) both buried in York.  I like to expand on all lines of the family hence my interest in the Applebys.

If you require any information on the Bardy family, I am more than willing to share (just need to dig that particular file out!).

A Happy New Year to you and hope to hear from you soon.

With kind regards.

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Kate Humphrey born Canada but British Subject
« on: Wednesday 29 August 12 11:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello Debbie

Thank you so much for that information and the link.  Looks like Margaret Ann was going to Canada to join her husband.  It must have been an horrendous journey for her on her own with a little baby as William would only be a few months old.

Many thanks again for your help.

Kind regards.

Hello Barry

I have only recently started researching the Humphreys.  Tom Humphrey's father was George Humphrey and following George through the censuses, there is no Thomas Stephen.  Maybe, after further research, he may turn out to be a cousin but thank you for your interest.

Kind regards.

Hello Sandra

Her real name being Margaret Kate rather hinders things so many thanks for finding her for me and for the information that she was with her mother and father, and their address.

Sorry to trouble you further, but do you know if there is any way of finding out whether son William Scott Humphrey born 1881 was with them in Canada?  Am I right in thinking that passenger lists before 1890 from Canada are not searchable by name?

With grateful thanks.

Kind regards.
