« on: Monday 24 April 17 17:38 BST (UK)  »
Could someone help me translate the following excerpt from the Magherafelt parish records (circa 1845). I know what I hope it says but would be nice to have it confirmed.

Thanks...

Midlothian / Magdalen Portman 1808-1838
« on: Tuesday 18 April 17 17:44 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out a little more about a potential ancestor of mine, Magdalen Portman who died in 1838, 30 years old. I can only find a mention of her in 1 record, her death. She is said to have been from Blackfriars Wynd and is buried in "N Smeatons Ground".

This is why I'm sure she must be an ancestor, I have another Portman ancestor who is buried in "N Smeatons Ground" also.

Can anyone help me track down some more records pertaining to this Magdalen Portman?

I'm unsure of the place name at the end of the following extract. It is from the parish records of Magherafelt in Londonderry, the year is 1863...

EDIT: A secondary question, what does ambo di hac cura mean? Is it something along the lines of being cared for in hospital?

Thanks for looking...

Tyrone / John Kelly 67th Foot Regiment Records

Looking to find any information contained within the  following records...

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C8782648

I know that my Kelly ancestors inhabited Clonfeacle around this time, hence my interest in this fellow.

As I say, any information would be good, but specifically I'm hoping there will be a mention of the  townland within Clonfeacle he was born. Something that will help me tie this Kelly to my Kelly ancestry.

Can anyone help?

Thanks for looking

***Edit: There is also a William Kelly who served in the 6th dragoons between 1800-1814

Can anyone help with translating the following excerpt...

Also does anyone know why NB is written in the margin for this entry? Its from April 1850, in the Moy (Clonfeacle) parish register for births and baptisms.

Thanks

Tyrone / Birth of Michael Kelly from around Moy (Clonfeacle)
« on: Saturday 08 April 17 20:09 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help find the birth of my 3 x great Grandfather, Michael Kelly? I know that his mother is Alice Hughes and his father is Thomas Kelly. I've found 3 children born to Thomas Kelly and Alice Hughes in the Moy (clonfeacle) parish records, which is where I know they lived. More specifically, their address is given as Drumay in the baptismal records, which is a couple of km west of Moy.

I know that Michael emigrated to Glasgow between 1858-1861. I have some estimated birth years for Michael from various sources, including...

1861 census: 1818
1871 census: 1815
1881 census: 1817
Death Cert: 1821

Michael himself has many children who also are recorded in the Moy parish register.

So in a nutshell, Michael was most likely born somewhere around 1818 + or - 3yrs, and he was either baptised in Moy, or somewhere fairly nearby.

Can anyone help? Thanks very much for looking

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / From The Moy Parish Registers
« on: Friday 07 April 17 11:36 BST (UK)  »
I had two questions about the following Excerpt from the Moy register for births and baptisms.

I can translate most of it (I think), it should read something like...

"Thos of Thos Kelly and Alais Hughes"

the second line appears to say...

"Ann Hughes ... Ann Kelly"

So I have two questions,

1. What does the second line say? And who were these people likely to be, god parents? (Unless I've got it wrong and they are an unrelated entry  :o)

2. What is the address on the second line on the far right, looks like 18 Drumroy? Bearing in mind this was from the Moy parish register.

Thanks for looking

***EDIT: Found a clearer source which I have added***
