World War Two / Munitions - Bradford
« on: Tuesday 04 June 13 08:13 BST (UK)  »
I have a family note which says that my mother, aged 19, was in a munitions factory during the war but I cannot find any information about where that would be based.

At the time the family were living in Great Horton, Bradford so I assume it would be fairly close to home.

Does anyone have any information that might help?

Does anyone know if there are any staff lists for Busby's store in Bradford.

Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Lost family in 1881 census
« on: Friday 16 November 12 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
Can't find any of the following members of my family on the 1881 census, any suggestions?

Harriet Young b 1848-1851?? in Bilton Yorkshire.

In 1861 she is 12 living with widowed mother Hannah Young.

In 1879 she gave birth to Sarah Ellen Young, in Bradford, no father on birth certificate.

In 1883 she married William Birgan, in Bradford.  He was born around 1848.  Both gave Bradford addresses on the marriage certificate.

I can't work out why none of them appear on the 1881 census but are living together in 1891 in Bradford.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Harriet Young - census 1881

I am looking for Harriet Young on the 1881 census.

She was married in 1883 and was living at 22 Brooklyn St Bradford.

On the 1911 census it gives her place of birth as Bilton which I think is near Tadcaster but I can't find her on any census before 1891 when she was living with her husband and daughter Sarah in Diamond St Bradford

World War One / A Briggs Northumberland Fusilers

I have a WW1 medal engraved A Briggs Northumberland Fusilers and wondered if anyone was looking for someone with the same name.  I'm not even sure how it came to be in the families possession.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / George Young - Bilton
« on: Friday 11 November 11 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace the death of George Young.
On 1841 census he's shown as 13 years of age.  I believe him to be the father of Harriet Young who, in 1851 is aged 2 and living with George's parents William and Hannah but not George.

On Harriet's marriage certificate in 1883 he is listed as deceased and the wedding was in Bradford.  His occupation is listed as shoemaker.

I would appreciate any help in tracking him down, thank you

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Bootham School York
« on: Tuesday 13 September 11 11:52 BST (UK)  »
is there a record of staff who worked in the school?

I have an ancester Helen (Ellen) Young who is thought to have worked there.  She was born around 1818 and an old family note says she was housekeeper at the school but no dates unfortunately.

I have no information as to whether she married or not at the moment so I suppose Young might not have been her surname at the time.

Any suggestions gratefully received
Judith

Yorkshire (West Riding) / harriet young - Aberford
« on: Monday 12 September 11 21:18 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for Harriet Young born around 1849 at Aberford.  Father George was a shoemaker - no dates for him.

Harriet married William Burgon ( Burgan, Birgan) around 1883.

Harriet had a cousin Helen Young who worked at Bootham Quaker School York.

William Burgon born around 1849 had a brother Joseph and his father was John, a weaver.

This is all the info I have from family records so any help would be appreciated.
