The 1851 census gives you these men born in Wood Enderby Lincolnshire

Bartholemew Calthorpe 53 Wood Enderby
John Calthorpe 53  Wood Enderby
Christopher Calthrop 49  Wood Enderby
William Calthorp 48  Wood Enderby

Two of whom were residing that night with William and Mary in Mareham le Fen.

The baptisms I can find for William and Mary's children are

CALLTHORP, Christofer
Christening Date:10 Jan 1802 Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CALLTHORP
Mother:   Mary

CALTHORP, William
Christening Date:29 Sep 1804 Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CALTHORP
Mother:   Mary

CALTHORP, Sammuell
Christening Date:   17 Jan 1807 Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CALTHORP
Mother:   Mary

CALTHORP, Mary Ann
Christening Date:   4 Jun 1809 Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CALTHORP
Mother:   Mary

and

CARTNEY, Bartholomew
Christening Date:   JUL 1799   Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CARTNEY
Mother:   Mary

CARTNEY, Elizabeth
Christening Date:   JUL 1799   Wood Enderby, Lincolnshire
Father:   William CARTNEY
Mother:   Mary

I can't see John's baptism and there is nothing earlier than 1799 in the Wood Enderby registers.

You state William Calthorpe married Mary Kirk. You presumably know where that marriage took place. Marriages ususally take place in the bride's parish and if William wasn't resident in the same parish the marriage register itself should state which parish he was resident in (but not necessarily born in).If that is the first record you have that is where you start checking the baptismal register of that parish for potential William Calthorpes. If that isn't successful you have to check adjacent parishes (which may or may not be on the IGI). Lincolnshire Family History Society may have further indexes which might help.

Gosh, Valda!  You are such an invaluable member of this forum.

This is earliest I have:

William Calthorpe (bn abt 1768 d: 1 May 1846) marries Mary Kirk (bn: 1776, d: 16 July 1846) in Mareham Le Fen, Lincs, England on 20 October 1794.

Their children:

Christopher 10 January 1802 and wife Mary Todd with their issue immigrated to Australia, settled in Goulburn NSW.  Both Christopher and Mary are buried at Merrilla in NSW. Two sons Richard and William Lawrence, both married sisters Harriet and Rosanna Fielding.  All living decendants today, are either in Australia or New Zealand.

Samuel 17 Jan 1807 died 1824.
Mary Ann 4 June 1809 died 2 June 1833.

THANK YOU AGAIN!  I do have death dates for the two youngest children and Mary Anne - only Richard, William Lawrence, parents and girlfriend made it to Australia.
William Lawrence and his wife Rosanna Fielding, went out first.  A couple of years later Richard qualified as a Paid Assisted Immigrant, as his work skills were required in Aust.  William L paid for his parents and sister-in-laws passage (Harriet Fielding) whom so after, married Richard.

The military record is new information.  I cannot fit him in the family thus far. ???

I think the Mary (100) Calthorpe was Mary Ann Stockhill (sic) (sp. etc).

Yes, of course ... it was the accelerated aging after 1851 that threw me!

Hi Geoff, Hi Calthorpe!!
This is all wonderful information - I havent passed it on to my son yet, but I'm sure he will be delighted.
I see you are both online at the moment - do you want to go into the chat room, or mail one another personally?

She was obviously quite spritely in her old age, and loved attending Census Parties.  Presumably skilled in social situations, and loved visiting others.  She was always out!  ;D ;D ;D
