Thanks very much for that Mike
I think he looks so young and I would love to be able to give him a name.

i can't make out any of the insignia, so no regiment, you could try another scan, high resolution of just the collar and shoulders

as for the date, if he is british, i would say it's post WW1 as collar badges were not introduced until after the war

Looking at the right shoulder it appears to have a thin lanyard around the shoulder and arm, the collar appears to have a grenade (round bomb with what looks like fire coming from it)

If so you could be looking at the same regiment as my father as for battalion and company I can't guess at as there is no shoulder flash.  My father was Royal Artillery and had a double six domino as a flash

I could be totally wrong and I am sure if I am someone will tell me

when I get time I'll upload a pic

Hello Harribobs
Please don't think i've ignored you!  I have been on holiday and only just seen your reply. I will have a go at another scan of the photo tomorrow and try to get a closer picture of the badge.

Thank you for your reply Andrew perhaps you will also be able to see a bit more from the closer picture

Thanks for trying to help

Wendy

I've just dug out my dads pic and noticed the lanyard is on the other shoulder howeveryours might not be a lanyard - but still looks like a grenade or motar shell on the collar

I'll look more carefully at the closeup

Hello again, I've had a go at sending a photo of just the collar and shoulder but not sure if it will help.
Thanks for looking
