Hi LizzieL,
Without wishing to hijack Keith's Hertfordshire Searles post, for what is worth I have on my Spares Database a John Searle who might be a possible.
John Searle of John & Sarah baptised 12 Nov 1802 at Felsted, Essex which is only about 7 miles from Takeley
Other children of a John & Sarah Searle baptised at Felsted:
Sarah Searles born 7 Mar 1773 baptised 2 Apr 1773.
John Searle bap 23 Jul 1773.
John Searle married Sarah Burls 20 Oct 1804 at Felsted by Licence, Sarah signed Burles.
Sarah Searle bap 2 Feb 1806 of John Searle & Sarah Burls
Mary Searle born 27 Apr 1814 bap 2 Oct 1814 of John Searle & Sarah Burls.
Can't be 100% sure but I believe the name Burls came from the entries for those two children and not my conclusion.
The John Searles bap 1802, Sarah bap 1806 and the 1804 marriage were sourced from Felsted transcripts, the others from the PRS, if these are of any interest to you it would of course be wise to have them double checked. Those Searles were found in passing and recorded "just in case" so there is a possibility there could be others waiting to be found.
I haven't found a link to my Searles line but It wouldn't surprise me at all if they were linked.
Regards
