Just had a look at the 1851 census at 260 high sreet was a hair dressers shop

will have alook at the 1861 high street

I see AW HALL was on the other side of the street in 1900 No 268 just above Grantham St.

My though about the photo is that the street isn't steep enough for that part of High St - but if there is a slope up from L to R, it can't be the other side of the street.

The attached photo is from another of Laurence Elvin's books - Lincoln in the 50s and 60s.  The chap on the pavement is walking past the Grand (closed in 1960).

Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.
