Thats the bit I couldnt work out 1871/81/91 he is from Cromer, then on the 1901 he says Wisbech Norfolk. As I live in Wisbech it has always been in Cambs on all the census's that I have seen.Just seems strange to me, unless its cos I is getting old

Hae you looked up George Rix's marriages in FreeBMD? That might solve the mystery.

Whereas yours may be this one:

(do you know Alice's maiden name?)

It would be safer to work back step by step and get the marriage cert 

Edit: I see there's a George Rix in Battersea in 1891, age 22, Platelayer, b. County Clare(!) in the same household as an Alice Cook age 22 ... whose mother is from county Clare as well

Now why would he have said Wisbeach Norfolk if he was born in Ireland

You are BRILLIANT     I kept waking up last night thinking about Georgie and had decided to order a marriage certificate- wish I'd read your messages before I went to bed, I'd have slept a lot better!
I cannot thank you enough! I think my George must have been sloshed when the censuses were done as he never seemed to know where he was born!
His wife was Alice Cooke, whose mother Bridget was born in County Clare. We always thought Alice was born in England.........
I shall now look up all you have told me and print off the registers, censuses etc and then try and sort out the Irish side of things.
