Whitchurch, Bucks
« on: Saturday 10 November 07 12:52 GMT (UK) »
I have discovered that my family roots lie firmly at Whitchurch.

My 11 x great grandfather, Lawrence Rickard was a stone mason and built some of the church that is still there today.

The family clans seem to have stayed in Whitchurch for about 400 years before venturing into Herts and London.

I have had a great time transcribing the PRS of Whitchurch and learnt loads about my family.

Wondering if anyone else has a link with Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire?

Have some family members from some of the surronding villages too eg Pitchcott, Hardwick cum Weedon, Quainton, Edgcott (to name a few)

Hi Tezz,
I have the same Lawrence Rickard, son Lawrence Rickard, son Lawrence Rickard, son Lawrence Rickard who married Elizabeth Woolman. Their daughter Jane married John Franklin.
I think we have met before.

Welcome to Roots... It isn't always like this... it's a smashing site. I'm sure you will have a great time here. The Photo Restore section is very special.

Nice to see you

Hi Tezz

Welcome to Rootschat.

I have ancestors from Whitchurch. My Grandmother was born there. Her parents were Charles & Mary Dwight. :)

Mary's maiden name was Blowfield, she was also born in Whitchurch as was her mother Betsey, who's maiden name was Cook.

Would love to know if you have come across any of these names in your research.

Regards

Hello Paula and Maddie.

Thank you for welcoming me to this site.  I have found it very interesting.

Paula  I am not sure if we have met before, but I would be delighted to swap notes with you on the Rickard clan.  I note that I have a marriage date for Lawrence and Elizabeth 8 May 1703 at Whitchurch, and I have 12 children listed for them.  Lawrence and Elizabeth are my 8 x great grandparents. My line continues with their son Thomas chr 1707 who married Jane Cupper/Cooper.

Maddie  You will delighted (?) to know that we share some common ancestors.
I have lots of info regarding the Blowfield/Cook line.
Betsey was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth, chr 1822,  Stephen was the son of Stephen and Mary nee Rickard  (see the info above), and chr in 1777.  Stephen and Mary Rickard are my 6 x great grandparents.  Mary Rickard can be  traced back to the Lawrence Rickard mentioned in my first post.

Happy to exchange/swap notes with either/both of you.  I am not sure if my e-mail address is visible, if so please feel free to e-mail me direct.

Sorry to break into the family reunion. ;D

My Aunty Bessie was from Whitchurch. - Elizabeth Mary Evans. b.1908.

Her lineage:

Joseph Amos Evans c1874. Whitchurch + Elizabeth Louisa Scamp. c1874. Bristol.

David Evans. c1853. Whitchurch + Mary Ann Harding c1855.Swanbourne.¬¬

Joseph Evans c1816. Whitchurch + Martha ? ? ? c1818. Whitchurch.

You rellies would have shopped in their premises up Market Hill,  during WW2.  I also think there were more Evans in the Post office in Oving in the early 1900's.
