Dumfries
« on: Wednesday 07 May 08 19:04 BST (UK) »
:Hi can someone please tell me how I might find the Birth of my G.G.G Grandfather.   According to all Census (in England) he was born  about 1814/5 in Dumfries.  His name was Edward Tudor.  His father (also called) Edward Tudor came from Liverpool).

In England, he married a Jane Tinsley.  I used to live in Scotland (Nairn, Nr Inverness), but now live outside the UK and don't have the same facilities for searching records.

sorry I can't give any more info.

:D  Hi, thank you so much for finding out about the birth of Edward Tudor born in Dumfries in 1814.  We knew his mother was called margaret, but rightly or wrongly (as we can't find their marriage) thought her surname might be Hewitt.  The only marriage we've come across was in Shropshire, and Edward's parents came from Liverpool.

I wonder if I could be cheeky and ask if it showed on your findings a church for the christening, or an address where the family lived or even his father's occupation.  He was supposed to be a book-keeper (in Liverpool).

Don't know how you found this info, but I am really, really grateful to you.

Very kind regards and gratitude

I got this from the British isles vital Record Index which is an extension of the IGI on CD sold by the LDS.  It was taken from LDS film no. 1067959 which will show the original but there is no more information on the CD that what I gave you.

There are no more christenings listed for those parents and there is no marriage record, looks like you need to find the Dumfries parish records to see if the marriage is there.

Hi Hazel

Sorry I am late getting to you on this but by now you may have found out that Edward Tudor had a long list of family members in the liverpool and manchester area. You probably know about this site http://www.tudorfarm.net.au/index.htm which lists the Tudors and Tinsleys. It also lists the details of Margaret Hewitt etc

If you have found out any more since your earlier posting can you let me know?

If you have got anything else on the Tudors, Hewitt's or Tinsleys I would be grateful.

I'm a decedent of Edward Tudor through his daughter Margaret Tudor (1835)  and her daughter Mary Jane McFadden (1855) who is still remembered by my dad as she was his grandmother.

Kind regards

Hello Toffeenose,  Yes I know about Tudorfarm.  I have been dealing with John Tudor the owner of this site for over 12 months.  You will see from my original request for help on this, that I was given the mothers name of Margaret Winstanley rather than Hewitt, but , as of yet haven't got the full details from Dumfries, but I feel this is the right mother.  You can find my full TREE on the public tree's in Ancestry.  I am also in contant touch with a true, living Tinsley on a daily basis, so I will forward your mail on to her as well.  I can't give you my e-mail address as RootsChat won't let me do it.  There is a way of doing it on this sytem, but I can;t seem to do it, sorry.  I come thru Edward Tudor, his son Henry had a daughter named Alice who married my Grt Grandad Robert Theobald.  My public Ancestry Tree is called Theobald Family Tree.

Let me know if you find it and I can be of any help.

Could I just add that there is no entry for him 1812-1816 in the OPRs for Dumfries on Scotlands People. This would suggest that it was not a C of Scotland baptism. I'm sure the BIVRI does list the source records.

How odd.

I've just checked the Film number of the record in the LDS catalogue and it states that it is from the Parish Church, Dumfries - but I can't find it on SP  :-\
