So many responses!.
Reyz, prior to Margrave Place my grandparents lived in Weston Street, Bermondsey. Although he was a bricklayer, he took employment as a dock labourer, and therefore I would think he would move nearer the river, whereas the location you suggest is probably 4 or 5 miles further away from it.
ShaunJ, my grandfather's name is John Rogers, and I was looking at the census form for the 1911 census.
Ben, have you mistyped the place name? It's Margrave Place.

Hi Abie

Yes I looked under Margrave. Sorry that was a spelling error on my previous post. I have looked under the Historical Directories site and couldnt find it there nor on the 1891 London streets listings. What a to do.

There is Marigold Place on the 1891 Census index.

Marigold Place  375    page 26  99b.

Bermondsey, Parish of St Crispin.

Cherry Garden Street carries on after it.

Thanks Reyz but as the place name was written in my grandfather's own hand, the style of which suggests his literacy, I doubt he would have mis-spelt it.

Hi

It is only a thought but could Margrave Place have been the name for a simple dwelling like one house and no more?

Checked the full Street Index for London 1891.  The only Margrave that comes up is Margrave Terrace in Fulham which of course is way out.

Possibly Margrave Place was built after 1891?

Good luck.   :)

Seems odd that no one can find it- are you sure it says Margrave Place.
Is the writing really clear? Could it be another road- any chance you could post the address section on Rootschat to get others opinions if it is not that clear?

I doubt it Ben, the address my grandfather gave is 10, Margrave Place, so I guess there was more than one dwelling.
Thanks again Reyz.
Carol, my grandfather's handwriting is very clear and unmistakable. However, I'd be happy to post the whole census form if I knew how, but I really don't think it would help.

Could it possibly be Hargrave rather than Margrave?
There is a Hargrave Square listed in Bermondsey in the 1901 Census.
