Hi Monica,

I've found the same entry on SP so that looks like it's definitely her.

I've had a look for a Janet Dunlop dying 1851-1855 now on SP but can't find one so if it does turn out she died earlier than statutory registration it looks like I'm not going to find her death entry.  Thanks again for the help.

Regards

Perhaps look for MIs at Fenwick or Stewarton pre 1855?

There is quite a bit on these Dunlop lines from google, for example:

Not sure how much you have seen already so won't list but worth searching to see whether anyone else has made any headway.

The OPR deaths index on ScotlandsPeople has a Janet DUNLOP death in Dundonald in 1842.

Michelle has found Janet and family in 1851 so likely that's too early Wullie. It's that period period between 1851-54 that would be useful!

Thanks for that link Monica - it seems there may have been more children than I knew about so I've had another look on SP and I've now found a Janet (b.1828 in Beith) who is another possibility for the elusive witness as well as a James (b.1833 in Tarbolton) and a Mary (b.1835) in Tarbolton.  It would stand to reason there would be a Janet and James so that makes me think these are strong possibilities but at the same time it doesn't look like they ever went far from Fenwick so I'm not totally convinced.

As regards looking for MIs - I've never done this before so what would be the best way to go about it?

Regards

Hi Wullie,

Thanks for trying to help but as Monica says she was definitely alive on the 1851 census so her death has to have occurred after then - she is stated as being deceased on her husband's death certificate in 1861 so there's basically a 10 year period in which she must have died (assuming the death certificate is correct.)

I don't know where you are based to be able to access local family history material (or maybe someone on RC has access) but there are published booklets for various cemeteries throughout Scotland. This link is a description of one such booklet which cover Fenwick:
