Can't find people on Marriage Certificate

Hmmm it's not something I've done either!!! Just know people seem to get a lot of info from them. John maybe died suddenly [he would only have been about 35]. I have no idea if the army make enlistees [?enlisters] write a will as standard.

Might be a good idea to start a new topic in the general board asking about how to find a will of someone in the army who died in India?

Sorry, I'm not much help there. I haven't pursued wills myself as not many of my earlier ancestors had enough to leave....

Not a lot of help but I have at last found John on the 1841 aged 6. Ancestry had them transcribed incorrectly [nothing new there then...] as HANVEY but findmypast had them correct. They are at Spillers Lane as in 1851 & 1861, living with a Webber [head is George born 1811] family & a Spurway family

Piece is HO 107/268/5/19/32.

Hi,

This may be a coincidence but......

There is a marriage of a Frances Mary Harding to a Joseph Reed (It wasn`t William Bowler)  registered Medway Kent in March Quarter 1871.  

They can be found on the 1871 census at Chatham Barracks Gillingham Kent RG10/913 folio 78 Page 34.

Joseph Reed, Head, Mar, 35, Private 2/19th Regiment   , born Somerset Wincanton
Francis M Reed, Wife, M, 27, born Devon Exeter  .

My money is most definitely on the John Harding born to a Samuel and Faith that Josey found.

That's brilliant. Doesn't look like a co-incidence to me....quite a family attachment to the 2/19th [how amazing for the census to be that specific - that's army efficiency for you].

Would be so good to find out how & when John died.

Not many people seem to know about this really helpful list that tells you which district a town would register in.  Perhaps if I post it enough times word will get round!

Christening: 05/07/1835 - Coldridge, Devon, England
Father: Samuel HARDING
Mother: Faith

Rosanna HARDING - Female
Christening: 23/12/1832 - Coldridge, Devon, England
Father: Samuel HARDING
Mother: Faith

Note: On the 1851 census Faith and her son John give their place of birth as Coldridge, Devon.
