I think this could be the birth of:-

John Craven  Mar Q 1838  Howden Dist (covers Wallingfen which is Newport)

BUT is 10 years out (c 1828) from his age of 1881 census on board "Albina". ?????? :-\

Is anyone able to follow this up with an earlier birth or possible parents from PR???

Some general information regarding Wallingfen/Newport, New Village and New Gilberdyke, they are all now Newport.
For many decades this area did not have a Church of England, so the parishioners had to attend church at Eastrington or North Cave for all events Bap, Marr and Burials.

Because parishioners had to go to another village church, it makes finding information difficult and does not mean that they lived within the parish of said church, so one has to keep an open mind and search a little wider.

The areas mentioned did have 3 Methodist Churches and at least 1/2 Meeting Houses, which also
makes searching difficult.

Newport Church of England Registers started about 1896.

Hope this information helps others searching this area.

Some info re 1851 census from a knowledgeable friend:-

George 58 (c1793) born Newport and Wife Ann 56 (c1795) born Gilberdyke living Skipton?

George born c 1822 Newport, he was a footman in 1851 at Cambridge, Butler in 1861 in Marylebone, a ManServant in 1871 in Hove , and a Watchman in 1881 in Lancs.

Thomas 63 (c1788) born Newport wife Nancy 56 (c1795) born Market Weighton living Newport.

William 27 (c1824) born Newport a Sailor living with family Broomfleet.

Thomas 15 (c1836) born Newport working on a farm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry I havent been able to find out any Cravens in Rawcliffe in 1901 (havent got any info on 1911).
Also looked  for John but unable to find him in 1841 or 51 so cant confirm his parents, as John senior doesnt appear either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As you know researching Newport is a nightmare, every surrounding village had some people from Newport in their registers before 1896 when the church opened, and then all the other missions etc.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is very possible the baptisms etc are most likely entered in the Methodist Registers, when I go next to the Treasure House at Bevereley I will look for them, but it is not easy as these Registers are all "ad-ock", not very well kept in order either !!!
This is the only baptism found for Rawcliffe in Baptism Transcriptions CD (1691-1927)
17 Jun 1906, Clara Craven, dau Benjamin & Ada Craven, Police Constable, Low Moor
There are no burials listed in my friends Transcription Booklets (1753-1900) for Rawcliffe
for Craven.
Now I will have to ask if these are from the Parish Church or the Methodist Church Registers,
will post back on here.
Craven from Goole to Hull, as in email from Dorothy in Oz:-
""George Tom and Caroline Craven moved from Goole to live at 119 Balfour Street, Hull, because my Great Grandad and Grandma where living in Sabina Terrace, Balfour Street.
After the Great Grandma & Grandie died, Grandad/Grandma moved into their house, and my Mum was married from there on Feb. 27th 1930, when she was 19"".
I think Dorothy means it was John Craven, the great grandfather living in Hull at Sabina Terrace etc.??
If this is correct then John Craven might have been "shipping" from Hull with George Tom Craven his son. Has anyone got any shipping records to confirm this??
Can anyone find them on the 1891/1901/1911 census in Hull???
This has to be the connection with the Hull Craven lot as they donated all the Craven pics etc to Goole Library in connection with the Craven of Goole and Hull.
Any info on the streets etc., would be wonderful, also any Craven info of Hull too.
Hi :)
Taken from the 1933 Kelly's Directory for Hull
Craven, George Tom., mariner, 119 Balfour Street
also
Craven, Fredk., engine driver, 106 Balfour Street
from the 1925 directory for Hull
George Tom Craven is still at 119 Balfour Street, but Fredk Craven is not listed.
