Hi Cheran

Could you post the reference for the 1841 census in which you found Samuel and Georgina please? Just making sure I've got all the info before I go looking  ;D Was it Georgina that went to Australia, or was that later on?

Regards

Angela

Angela

Sorry the information I had was from the 1851 Cenusus  - the reference I have is 1.0. 107/1964

It has Samuel Gardner from Painswick Edge widow with his daughter Georgina aged 14  and nephew Henry Gardner aged 21 - I will get back to the library onMonday and see if I can find anything more on the 1841 census.  I think I ran out of time on Monday when I was searching to find 1841.

Georgina married in 1863 came to Australia in 1878 with husband George Colebatch and they had a daughter who died in 1865 named Cecilia

unfortunately 1841 census doesn't state relationships  :-\

HO107/355 book 18 folio 5 page 4
Pitchcombe, Stroud, Gloucestershire

Jane Hogg  70  Independent   Yes
Mary Hogg   35  Independent   Yes
Emma Hogg  30  Independent   Yes
Sarah Mills  65  Independent   Yes
Georgiana Gardner    -    Yes
Hannah Harris  15  F.S.   Yes

(Yes = born in county)

In 1841 census ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5

As yet haven't found Samuel  :-\

Susan  :)

Will do a bit more digging tomorrow - or should that be today  ::)

I have been following this with interest :)

This may just be something to file away for future ref and may be totally unrelated.
From the IGI;
Marriage, Jane MILLS/Edward HOGG, 05 January 1796, Rodborough, Glous

I was just going on the Sarah Mills with Jane Hogg in 1841.

Deleted, thought I had Samuel in 1841 but was incorrect.

Also found on FamilySearch

Elizabeth Hogg born 22 July 1799 Mother Jane Mills  Father Edward Hogg born Stroud Glouscester England and found emma sophia hogg christening date 2 July1805 Painswick same parents

The Christening date for Georgina seems to be either 25 or 28 Janury 1837.

The date for Elizabeth seems a litle out though so back to still needing to see if the father is on marriage record somehow I think.

Cheran ???

The witnesses to a marriage are most commonly a sister or brother of each party - at least in my experience so far they are. They should still help piece things together though  :)

There's a worrying lot of Gardners in Painswick and Hoggs in the Stroud area generally..... ho hum....  ::)
