John Calcott St Quentin COMPLETED

Checked out ALL usual places, Papers Past, BDM, census etc; found some refs to him in digitised Aust papers named as the contractor for the building of a United Prespyterian Church and getting poked in the eye by an angry Italian drummer at an opera in Ballarat- I kid you not.

He was a well known figure in ChCh for a few years and then disappeared. Painted the ceiling of the Stone Chamber of the Provincial Council Building - and a lot of other stuff; started calling himself an architect in 1869 after he sold his painting business; was a mate of my great great grandfather William Brassington.

He had a son also called John, who was also a painter and went bankrupt in 1882 or thereabouts and may have gone to Australia; and a daughter Sarah Priscilla Ellen who married William Dawe and had 6 children in NZ.

Never managed to find St Q in UK census. Where did you get the medical info and wife's info from?

All born in the County.

For the John, the age is about correct and his father was a painter.
