I'm learning from this.

Is it possible then to request a photocopy of the original ?

Just curious.....as there's been times when I've been finding it hard to decipher things from ordered certs.

I am glad that I am not the only one who has no idea what the cause of death was.
Thank you all for your interest.
Just throwing another idea into the pot:
The Latin name for the drug mefruside is mefrusidium.  Any Latin scholars out there?
Thanks

The certificate came from the local registry office, so it is a handwritten copy of what they have there.
So what we see is what the registrar believes it to be.
Any suggestions what to do next?

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers Annie
Was just trying to help solve this intriguing puzzle.

Ok, did feel a bit humiliated, apology accepted.

I don't think this helps you as it is a 20th-century coining for a pharmaceutical compound (the name is probably derived in part from its methyl- and furanyl- components).

Any chance of going back to or phoning the registrar's office to explain the problem & asking if you can see the original? After all, you have paid for it.

Phoned the registrar who was very helpful but could not let me have a photocopy.  She looked at the register and said that it was difficult to decipher.
First two letters "Me",
Then could be "l" or "f"
Certainly "r"
Then "ee" or "u"
Last "s"
Melrus,  mefrus, melrees,  mefrees.  Getting more complicated by the minute.
Would save my pennies and order a copy from the GRO if I was sure that I would get a copy of the original.
Thanks

A call to GRO would confirm what you would get.

The GRO have no access to the original register, what they have is a copy of the original sent in with the quarterly returns
