Hi wannywoo123,

It is always best to keep information to one thread - there are a few now on the Powell family and there is a danger of people duplicating what has already been found.

Thought we were in danger of going down the same route as yesterday.  ;)

I think Dawnsh put forward a reasonable suggestion for the birth of Alana Evans Powell in reply 20
of this thread - unfortunately the only definite way to know for certain would be to buy the birth certificate

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=720175.18

Alan's date of birth might have been 21 February 1926, in which case there's this entry

Mar 1926
Evans    Alan,   Evans, Marylebone 1a 713

Maybe Edith was 'in service' in London or she could have been sent away from home to have her baby as an un-married mother

You could try ordering the cetificate I mentioned from the GRO (www.gro.gov.uk) but don't use the reference.

Their site asks if you know the reference or not, it defaults to 'no' so then you enter the year as 1926 and go to the next page.

I've attached a screen shot

Enter his name as Alan Evans and date of birth as per their example 01/01/1926 not the date I posted as that could be wrong, for the place of birth fill in Marylebone, leave the fathers name blank. When you get to the mothers name, leave the surname blank and fill in 'Mother's surname at time of the birth' as Evans. For her forenames enter 'Edith Annie or Edith'.

The GRO should look at the entry in the register and if the mothers name is not Edith Annie or Edith, they'll email you and you'll get your money back.

This service currently takes about 24 days or you could order the cert and have it back in about a week by quoting the reference. However the cert could be wrong and you won't get your money back.

Its a difficult one - it looks as if Alan was born before the marriage in 1931 - Edith still used her maiden name of Evans on that marriage so that would indicate she wasn't married previously. The death record for Alan Evans Powell says he was born in 1926 - the one dawnsh suggested turns up in the free bmd records so the last suggestion made is worth a "shot"
