The reason that I thought that it must date to after the war, was because there were men in the photo.

I would agree Carol . I said 1920s ….but on looking closer at the photo I'm saying post 1918 - to mid 20s.
Is it my imagination or are the family sitting at a lower lever than the pier?

On enlarging the photo even more I think the design on the pier alternates between - discs/ rings and what looks to be figures  ::)

Looking through some of the online pics, this one shows a similar type of collar to those that the women are wearing - 1919

The reason that I mentioned Margate is that the pics of the pier there looks very similar but I would think many of them would be similar.
