Kloumann, can you make out the name of the 5 month old baby showing on the shipping manifest from 1908? Ship arrived at Montreal on 2 May 1908, so baby born end of 1907? Thought this might help in finding a potential 3rd marriage for John Snr.

That does look possible...wish there was a close possibility on SP births (can't see one  :-\).

Good evening everyone, thanks for your responses.  Just back from work and delighted to see your messages.  Something that had worried me about the family I had found was that Margaret had died and then was on the next census.  I can see now from your research that it was coincidental that both his wives were named Margaret!

You ask the names of his previous regiments.  One was Prince Alfred's Guards based in Port Elizabeth.  A google search tells me this is affiliated to Royal Scots Fusiliers!  He was also in the Krugersdorp Commandos.  I would very much like to follow up on that enlistment you found Monica.  Any ideas what I can do next?  Where can I find his records for the Royal Scots Fusilers?  Is there any service number?

I wonder whether John Snr. enlisted as well?  Is there anything else on Margaret Dunlops stepson John, 18 after 1901.  And no mention of his brother William?

Sorry I am not sure how to check this out on Scotlands People?  If you tell me what to do, I am happy to pay for it with my credits. The SP ref is 597/8/15.

I hope I can find this family as I am pretty sure it may be the ones we looking for.  Is there anywhere I can look for living ancestors of them?

Thank you very very much.  I am very grateful for your help on this.

Thanks!

PS just seen your further messages.  Where are you looking to get all this information?  Where can I look?  Lastly what is SP births?

SP stands for Scotlands People  :)

The enlistment papers I saw showed on Ancestry's Fold3 database which requires a different subscription to the one I have with them. See www.fold3.com. They do offer a free 7 day trial (just make sure you cancel your details within the seven days otherwise they will go on to charge the subscription).

Thanks Monica.  I think I was on Fold3 when I initially found James Stevenson.  Don't think I am still subscribed.

Minnie was born in France. Think the infants name might be French. Gwenaelle is a Breton name.
