Thankyou again,
Im happy with the research and names I have...all good A lot of good helpful info on that Tassie Convict site.
With small embracement to Sue and her David Benn marriage.. after my lengthy answer, I found a copy of the original marriage certificate of David and Robina 1851...I just do not understand this ..

David was not a convict but marriage record says Robina [convict] Not a land owner/employer only soldiers were not recorded coming and leaving Tasmania, and anyway married 1851 to David and then again 1853 to another David Burns....Burn and Benn   surly we do not have a convict marriage during sentence making the surname look like Burn then later a civil marriage to Burn when free
open to suggestions here
come along way from just asking if anyone know Robina parents in Dundee...cheers

I'm glad you looked at the marriage I have been talking about.

If you look again you will see the 2 letters before the word bachelor on the record.
They are T L in old-fashioned writing.  This stands for Ticket of Leave.
Ticket of Leave is granted to convicts under certain circumstances.

If you follow the link given to David's Convict record from Debra, you will see that he was a convict granted T L

You would be wise to click on all links given in the replies.
Some helpers here are very informed about Tasmanian records and the meanings ;D

And yes, you do have marriage during sentence and Yes, there was confusion about the surname. He could not spell or read or write.

Phoebe Easter Steward and daughter Fanny Amelie Steward [Easter]

Why are you calling Phoebe "Phoebe Easter STEWARD" ?

I can see a "Phoebe Steward EASTER" in Tasmania but she was born in England in 1858 illegitimately to Hannah/Ann EASTER who later married Mark STEWARD.  They arrived in Tasmana in 1862 - Mark, Ann, Phoebe and brother Samuel.  This Phoebe married in 1881 and her father Mark and sister Winifred were witnesses.

At a quick glance there about 6 or 7 men named James BURNS/BURNS born in the right time frame in Tasmania.

You will need to check all of them before you can say the son of David and Robina is the one you think was with Phoebe.

There is no connection whatever that I see. A James BURNs who could be the son of many people.

How have you identified James BURNS, father of children with Phoebe EASTER, and James born 1855 to Robina nee KERR, to be the same person?
