Dursley Gloucestershire
« on: Saturday 23 July 22 05:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know about the Parish Registers/Bishops Transcripts for Dursley Gloucestershire? I am mainly looking at the period 1808-1815. The actual B.T.'s are on Family Search website up to 1812. However some of the tops and bottoms of the pages are missing. So hopefully the P.R.'s are available to fill those gaps. Thomas Gibbs (widower) married Ann Jones (spinster) in 1811. Have found 4 daughters born between 1815 and 1821. I am looking for Elizabeth who would have been born about 1808/1811. She could have been born to Thomas and his first wife. Elizabeth Gibbs married Thomas Elliott in 1837.

FreeREG has transcribed Dursley records but looks like they had the same trouble as you.
Seems to be a gap 1785-1811

I did notice that Elizabeth bapt 2 illeg children;
CHARLES HENRY Gibbs 10 Jun 1832
GEORGE Gibbs  24 Jul 1835, Buried 21 Oct 1835 age 3 mths

THOMAS Gibbs appears to be Buried 13 Dec 1837 age 86 (1751)
GRO has age 87
(you likely know this)

1841 Charles Gibbs, Elizabeths Son, is with his step-grandmother;
Ann Gibbs 60
Susanna Gibbs 19
Charles Gibbs 9****
George Harrold   2

1851 Charles is with his Aunt Maryanne HARDING

By 1861 he is married and in Wales

Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. Most of it I had. Came across something interesting in my research. Lavinia Harrold, 3 year old daughter of James and Sarah (nee Gibbs) Harrold was a lodger with the Whyman (or Wyman, Weyman) family at the time of the 1851 census. Jane, (55 years, pauper), Mary Ann, William, Hannah and Elizabeth. The other Harrold children; Thomas, George, William, Mary Ann and Sarah were with their parents. Both families lived in Boulton Lane. Research: Jane Wyman's maiden name was Morgan, daughter of James and Hester (nee Wallington) Morgan. Don't know yet if they are related to my Morgan family of Dursley. My grandmother was Mary Constance Morgan, daughter of Aaron and Annie (nee Elliott) Morgan. I'll keep looking. Thanks again.

Can any Dursleyians help me with another puzzle please?. Thomas James Elliott, 23, bachelor, machinist, abode Bradford Yorkshire, married Harriett Elizabeth Workman, 21, spinster, abode Cam, at Cam St George Gloucestershire on 18 May 1875. Thomas James Elliott's father is listed as John Elliott, a tanner.   However, the only Thomas James Elliott's baptism ca. 1852 that I can find is the one with parents, Thomas (on all his children's baptisms and censuses listed as a labourer) and Elizabeth Elliott, at Dursley on 25 July 1852.
On the 1881 census for North Bierley, Yorkshire: Thomas Elliott, age 28, born Dursley, and Harriett E, age 26, are listed with their children Isabella F, Lily E and Thomas W. Elliott.
On the 1871 census Thomas was living with his parents Thomas and Elizabeth,  and sister his Emily, at Fort Fields, Dursley, aged 19, a machinist. He is also with his parents in 1861.
Any suggestions about John Elliott, tanner, being Thomas's father? Thank you.

He was a tanner.   The father of the bride was John Workman
