need help filling in the pieces of my Turton ancestors.
« on: Tuesday 15 November 22 18:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I am trying to fill in some missing info on my dad's grandma's family until last year I didn't know she existed until I came across a never seen before photo album. I found a bunch of photos of my dad as kid and teenager and the looked close. over the last 40 years of my life, he never said a word about her, even though she lived next door to him growing up.

I am piecing together firsthand information on Beatrice May Turton from my dad. He has little to no information of Beatrices Siblings.

As for this post what I am looking for is information on Beatrices Siblings.

Facts

Parents
DAD
John Thomas Turton
Born 1870 • Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England.
Died  APR 1938 • Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England

*I am missing the 1881 census for him??? his parents were Fredrick Turton and Mary Parks)

1921 Census?

Did he have any military service?
----
MOM
Ada Amy Bower (transcription error has her as Bamer on some records)
Born 1871/72? • Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire, England.
Died  JUL ? 1951 • Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England

I also don't know where she was in 1921 census?
this must be her in the 1939 reg she is the right age her son William is the right. I also don't know who Edith Turton is but maybe her son William's wife?
Line Number   32
Schedule Number   58
Sub Schedule Number   1
Enumeration District   Rbpv
Borough   Ilkeston
Registration district   434 B2

-----
----------------
My great grandmother
Beatrice May Turton who I don't need to focus on here at this time
--------------
Siblings
--------
Albert E Turton
Born ? ? 1901 Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England. (He was one month old on the census what date was the 1901 census taken?

Died about Jul ? 1918 Basford, Nottinghamshire, England?

I think he fought in WW1 possibly killed because of the war. I found three totally different military records for people of the same name. I don't know which record, if any is his???
-------------------

Ivy Turton
Born  28 OCT 1904 • BASFORD, England
Died ???

I am missing the 1921 census info for her.
My dad knew her and said she never married or had kids. I do have a few Photos of her but know very little.

In the 1939 reg She is a "Hosiery Operator" whatever that is?

She must have lived near my dad in the mid to late 1940's so I am trying to get more information from him.
-------------------------
William Frederick Turton
Born 21 JUN 1895 • Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England
died SEP 1975 • Derby, Derbyshire, England

I don't know where he was in 1921 census
**Did he marry and had Kids?
my unproven theory, is he married someone named Edith? and was living with his mom in 1939.

Any military records?

---------------------
Mary Turton
? ? 1898 • Basford, Nottingham, England
Death?

After the 1911 census I have no idea what happened to her? my dad didn't know she existed, but he was born in 1944 so that is not saying much.

***Did she get married? When? to Who?
***Did she have kids?
1921 census?
1939 Registry?
relatives / decedents from her line?

Any help will be appreciated

Just to begin, you can search 1921 census index on Find My Past.
If you find a name, you can click the icon on the left and see who else is in the household.
You can find out quite a bit but if you want to download the images, then you have to pay.

Albert E's birth may not have been registered with that first name.
Searching the GRO index for a male Turton born 1901 mmn Bower two come up. One John Thomas registered in Basford Sept 1/4.
The other in Basford June 1/4 William Edward Turton mmn Bower reg dist. Basford (which includes Ilkeston) June 1/4 vol 7b page 193. The parents seem to have registered all their other children so I wonder if they had a change of mind as to what they wanted him to be known as.
The 1901 census was taken 31 March 1901 so relates to a June 1/4 registration

Thought I would take a look for any/all marriages of a Turner and Bower anywhere from 1870 to 1910 and there was only one male Turner to a female Bower and that was your John and Ada so who were the parents of the John Thomas Turner registered Sept 1/4 1901 Basford?

The army records on ancestry give 3 records for an Albert Edward,
1. a private in the Nottingham and Derbyshire regiment number 13934. This would seem the most likely one due to Basford being in the Derbyshire Nottinghamshire district but men could serve in any regiment according to the need. This one received the British War Medal and Victory Medal
2. A corporal in the Norfolk regiment number 13198 who received the 1914 -1915 Star so possibly not your Albert as he would have only been 13 years old if he joined up in 1914. Men did say they were older than they were but I doubt a 13 year old would  get away with it.
3.a private in the Royal Sussex G/31692 This one received the British War Medal and Victory Medal
