Sarah VYSE
« on: Sunday 16 July 23 16:30 BST (UK) »
The birth of Sarah Ann VYSE was registered in Barnet as being on 19 Feb 1850 and, at her baptism on  03 Mar 1850, her parents are named as Edward and Mary Ann.

In the 1851 census, Sarah is recorded as being a 'Nurse Child', aged 1 year, in the family of David & Sarah SAMUEL and her birth place is said to be Barnet.

I can find no trace of her parents. Can anyone help, please?

There is an Edward Vyse marriage shortly after that birth but it was in Warwickshire to Elizabeth Eggington

Do you have the birth certificate or does her birth date come from the baptism, I see it is mentioned there.

ADDED I see that there is no occupation for Edward on the baptism whereas other entries on the page do have them.

There is a Suffolk 1841 for an Edward & Susan Vyse - Edward was a butcher & they have an 8yr old dtr Mary

Did she use her fathers name at baptism to give her daughter "respectability"

1851 Herts for a Mary Ann Vise/Vyse but b 1836

Are we assuming Mary Ann was Vyse?  If the baptism shows them both as Vyse it's logical it was Edward's surname in which case Mary Ann could have another surname.

I'm not sure what the protocol was if the child was registered in the fathers surname but the couple weren't married.  Should the birth reg show both surnames?

Thank you all for your replies. Unfortunately, I'm still not being notified of their existence so I've only just picked them up.

I'm off for a family dinner in 5 minutes, so I'm afraid that I'll have to look at them in detail later.
