Hi
Sorry for disappearing for a few days.
Well you have all been busy... thank you very much..
Yes heywood the death cert does state in rank & profession box    of 1 Norcott Road Hackney spinster domestic nurse Daughter McGrath name and trade unknown. I think that means Kate McGrath lived at 1 Norcott Road, Hackney and her daughter McGrath was informant ??
I have sent for the death cert you suggested for Kate West 1926 Chelsea. should be back early in week.  Also sent for 2 others which maybe her childten they are back but can't get on GRO website today as they are doing work on there
Have looked at image of 1921 census and the writing is not very clear .  I think the D McGROWTH  is D McGrath . Am I allowed to post ithe image on here?
Maria L Sparks was born St George's Hanover Square  in 1897 her mother was French mothers maiden name Malatesta. Anthony McGrath is buried in same plot as Maria's mother.

Will read and disgust all messages

Thank you all for your time & help

There is a column for the informant.
I thought I had posted an example but can’t see it by scrolling from here.

If all that information was under ‘occupation’, or ‘rank and profession’ it means that she was a spinster and daughter of McGrath.

Here is the link to the example - hopefully!

Caroline West b 31 May 1879 11 Caroline Place, Chelsea. Her Aunt Bridget registered her. (Bridget Hill is Catherine's sister) I have birth cert.

Chelsea News and General Advertiser, 25 January 1924 (free ocr text)
OLD RESIDENTS DEATH. WIDOW OF MR. W. HILL. An old Chelsea resident has passed away in the person of Mrs. Bridget Hill, the widow of Mr. W. G. Hill, who was a well-known local greengrocer. The late Mrs. Hill, who was 72 years of age, came to Chelsea with her parents when in her infancy. For many years past she had resided at 5F Sutton-dwellings. About six months ago she suffered from a stroke, and was nursed by her married daughter at 88 Sydney-street, Chelsea, where she passed away on Monday, January 14th. She leaves six sons and three daughters to mourn their loss. She was highly esteemed in the district, and actively associated herself with her late husband's efforts in the cause of charity. The interment took place in the family grave at Brompton Cemetery on Saturday last. The principal mourners were :--Mr. and Mrs. W. Hill, Mr. and Mrs. John Hill, Mr. and Mrs. James Hill, Mr. and Mrs. T. Hill, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Hill, sons and daughters-in-law ; Mr. A. Hill, son ; Mr. and Mrs. Emery, and Mr. and Mrs. Bear, son-in-law and daughters; Mrs. Pike, daughter ; Mr. and Mrs. Condon, brother and sister-in-law ; Mr. J. Condon, brother, Mrs. Sherring, Mrs. Strutton, and Mrs. McGrath, sisters; Mr. W. Taylor, grandson......goes on (and on!)
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Gamble and Sons, of 13 Walton-street, Chelsea.

A newspaper reference to Kate?
Chelsea 22 October 1922 re death of a lodger

‘… aged 76 yrs, of 75 Arthur Street … knocked down and killed… Catherine West, a widow, not related to the deceased but th3 deceased had lodged with her…’

The text is a bit scrambled and I am assuming it is Arthur Street

It is difficult that she uses Catherine/Kate and McGrath/West. Although in the funeral report, if she is Mrs McGrath, that is what the informant would have used.

Hi
It must be. Yes, it is odd why she she switches from McGrath to West?
Great find. Having them speak their own words always brings them to life, doesn't it.

A guess at some of it (you're right, the text is terrible)
WOMAN PENSIONER'S FATAL ACCIDENT. CORONER AND LEFT HAND DRIVES. The distressing fatality at Sloane-avenue, Chelsea, last Friday (briefly reported in our last week's issue) was investigated by the (West) London coroner Mr. H. R. Oswald at the Guardians' offices King's-road, on Tuesday morning. The deceased, (Emily) Yates, a widow, aged 76 years, of 75 Arthur-street, (Chelsea?), was knocked down and killed instantly by a Clayton steam (wagon) at ?? Catherine West, a widow, (identified) the body, but told the coroner that she was not related to the deceased.  Deceased had lodged with witness at 75 Arthur-street, said witness had known her for 10 years. The Coroner: She didn't do any work? Witness: Yes. On Wednesday week..??...work in a laundry. Continuing, witness said deceased was a ladies' shoe maker by trade. Deceased had wonderful health, but was very deaf. Witness saw her alive about 10(?).30 on Friday morning, when she went out to draw her old age pension. Afterwards a little girl(?) came to her house, and told her that....had been run over... What time was that?
Can't go on, text too bad :(
Minnie Hopkins, wife of a house painter, of 30 Francis-street, Chelsea, an eye witness of the tragedy, gives evidence next.

The only likely Yates death is
Dec 1922 Chelsea 1a 400
Yates, Emily
Age 76
