To 'Softly Softly'; 'hanes teleu' & 'ColC'

Many thanks for all your replies. I am completely blown away by what you have found.

To be perfectly honest I had missed the fact that the GRO index for his first marriage gives him more than one surname.

So in conclusion we have someone born Henri Limoinge who then changed his name to Henry Audley, I wonder why. Does any one disagree with that.

I will now write it all up for posterity.
Many thanks to you all for your invaluable help

Regards
Wirral Lad

Wirral Lad, those are the findings we found. As a belt and braces I would if your finances allow order his 1st marriage certificate to Phyllis Nellie Smith. This hopefully will give his fathers name if he knew it and occupation. If you do please let us all know the outcome.

SS

Do you have details of his 3 children with Phyllis??

Agreed and note the "hopefully" - no guarantee father's information will be present on the cert.

Hi Softly Softly, and hanes teulu
Thanks for your messages.
Softly Softly
You provided me with a copy of Henri Limoinge's birth registration and as the  surnames of his father (Limoinge) and his mother (Conte) both appear in the alternative surnames for his first and second marriages. That is proof enough for me.

I have information about two people with the name Henry Audley of similar age but only one birth registration; Knowing that one Henry Audley was born Henri Limoinge allows me to confidently split the information between the two individuals.

I have information about the 3 children of Henri Limoinge, 2 sons born in England and a daughter born in Ohio, USA.  The son and daughter that survived infancy are all recorded in the 1950 US Federal Census with the Audley surname. They are all children from his first marriage.

hanes teulu
I think the birth registration from softly softly is conclusive proof
