Cumeye round here, same as Brymbo is Brumbo.
But Treuddyn used to be Tryddyn and Frwdd was Frood.
Don't even mention Acrefair. 😀

Ack - ray - fire. All one word. But  depends where you live
On the way to Langolen . I tried for weeks to try to teach my friend how to pronounce Llangollen but she couldn't get her her tongue right. 🙂

She couldn't manage Llay, it was Lay 😏

I had a look at some Nonconformist records for Cymau but they are much later than yours, there were no Phoenix in any of them .

As for Edward Phoenix  died in the workhouse I guess you could cross check 1851 for any Edwards the same age and see if any are missing by 1861.

Thanks wilcoxon.  I haven’t been able to find that family on 1861 census which has not helped.  Some people are using a death date of 1877 for Edward Phoenix but it’s not this one as that was the shoemaker who was widowed before 1871 census as he lived in lodgings then.

Not F but  v (Basic Welsh - tut tut)   FF = F  f - v    ;D

As I said  Acruvi

and the last r is nearly silent.

Mazzy

_ I've looked through all the local records that I have and can't find any burials for Elizabeth Jones around that time in the area. It might well be that a relative died after the time that the first Eliz was baptised  and she was then named after her.

Thanks Gadget.  Some parish registers are great for information, others give the bare minimum.  I’ve noticed in our Pontblyddyn registers some ministers put NG in the margin which I thought meant no grave, a subtle way of saying they had a paupers burial.  Not that I know where the paupers were buried in our churchyard unfortunately.  The worse thing in the registers I think are the words ‘base born’, ‘bastard’ and ‘illegitimate’ labelling innocent babies.   :)
But I digress, I appreciate your help
