Catherine McShean / Earl Grey emigrant on Derwent in 1850
« on: Saturday 10 August 24 11:32 BST (UK) »
Catherine McShean is recorded as being on orphan emigrant from Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland to Port Philip in 1850, on the Derwent ship. She was 18 years old on arrival. Therefore an approximate birth year would be circa 1832. Last known information is that she was employed by a Thomas Stevens in Queen Street, Melbourne. Looking for information regarding Catherine's movement, marriage, children, or descendants, etc. All direction is much appreciated.

@CaroleW

A local voluntary committee here in Dundalk approached me to research these girls. I'm not a historian, but in my spare time I'm a part time mature undergraduate student, with no speciality in any particular aspect of history or genealogy. If the girls stories can be traced, the committee has suggested that maybe a permanent memorial be erected in Dundalk, to recognise them and their lives. I've no affiliation with the committee either. If a piece can be written, the unpaid work will be published locally with sources provided naturally. I'm also completely new to Rootschat. Thank you for your interest.
