Hi . I will try to be as short as possible.
Wondering if a mt-DNA test might help in finding missing Gt Gt Grandmother and thus Gt Gt grandfather.

I have nothing concrete past my Gt Grandmother on my mothers maternal ine.

I have already done Ancestry usual test . I am wondering if this can be extended to the mt-DNA.
The test I have is not showing anything positive past my grandmother and this has been an ongoing issue from day one in 1993.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The Common Room / Re: Why do my offers of help seem to be rejected?

Hello  everyone here,

have learned by disappointment what to share and what not to share and who with over many years. However there is one that I will never understand. The person has an ancestry tree and a whole family from a census record. As far as I am concerned the last name is miss transcribed or wrongly interpreted or simply doesn't belong in this family.
I diligently went through all the info on that tree and some is close to correct but needs tweaking.  But the 6 or so children all given with DoB etc cannot be found with the person as mother on GRO.  The all come up with two different Aunts as the mothers.  I do not know how often i have re chcecked this and it is a;ways the same. Sent all the referenes and the tree is still as it was from years ago.  Others have copied it !!!    I gave up.

The Common Room / Re: Researching Effe Helene Burton Queensland, Australia

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for all the suggestions.

Up  until yesterday all I had was her birth date. since then i have found most of the usual information. Yes she did divorce John Albert Manthey.  Later she remarried in 1936 to George Griffith in Kyogle, NSW, Australia. They had no children and he unfortunately died 4 years later in 1940.

In 1954 she was residing at Sherwood in Brisbane and that would have been when I knew her.
Effe is her birth name and that is what I use with "know as Effie" where applicable. her mother was German and used the German spelling. Eventually it became the English version.
I shall keep looking. i have transferred my searching to my laptop it is faster than my computer.... UGH.

Thenks again Eessnell.

Unfortunately I do not know any of this part of the family,

Hi Ciderdrinker,

Thank you for the reply.  I have all the original Burton family but I do not have any photos.
Effe's mother and father are on the internet with almost every Burton related tree but not Effe or her siblings.  It's the same photo and it's  a late life one too.

I was hoping that one or other of this large family might see the post and be able to help.
I spent 3 hours yesterday on one tree supposed to have her in their tree but I didn't find her or a photo of any Burtons.
I shall try again today.    Thankyou for your kindness. Essnell.

The Common Room / Researching Effe Helene Burton Queensland, Australia

Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this is permitted but:  I have been researching the large Burton family from Norfolk from where Robert Burton immigrated to Australia.
I have now got to the point where I would like to add  photos of people and places, ones that I have not already found. So my particular one is the the family of one of the Burton Family from Beenleigh,  Queensland, Australia.
Frederick George Burton  and his wife Helene Justine Sommer and their first child Effe Helene Burton born 1882, Yandina, Queensland.  I have chosen Effe to start this project as I remember her visiting my grandmother on various occasions.  I believe that at this point she would have lived at Coorparoo , Brisbane, Queensland.

Any help on this would be very much appreciated .
Kind regards,
 Essnell

Hi everyone on this thread,

Just for the record, I do not have Microsoft windows.  It's the latest Linux version updated three days ago.
I am still having lock - down issues when I use Ancestry.    If I do that spills over to elsewhere.  So to me a serious issue with Ancestry. I have not been near it for the last 24 hrs and so far all else is ok.

It's not only annoying but a waste of my subscription money.
I also like someone else thought of Hackers.

Technical Help / Starlink problems
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 07:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am in Australia ,  So here is a internet connection Question.

my current internet connection about 4 weeks ago was via Telstra dongle wifi but connected to my computer via ethernet as I was instructed to do.
But we are not in a very good area for any of this technology to work very well   It's hit and miss and subject to weather conditions.

Then about 4 weeks ago a member of the family purchased a Standard Starlink set up on a special deal that was on offer.  The package arrived contents one Modem, Cable, and Antenna .

the person has set up the antenna  in the backyard under the rotary clothes line and placed the modem in the first available space ie the laundry.

Everyone is supposed to be able to access this setup via wifi.  I was given the name to use and a password.
I duely after some thought set it up.  the first few times I tried it it was great.
I did not disconnect my Telstra connection.

Now I have discovered that Starling is only active if the original person is home and his computer is on.  That is usually weekends.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not .

i have tried disconnecting and re connecting  it just is not doing what it was said to.

Is this because My computer is different to his.  could it not be properly recognising my computer. Is it set up correctly.

Anyone know anything about the Starlink setup.

Essnell.

Hi   Yes me too:

Over the last week I have had issues just getting the site to work . Especially in the messages section.  It is causing the whole computer to lockup. So after an inordinate amount of time and no response  I have to kill the computer at the box and wait for a bit an reboot.  It's been awfully annoying.

Hi Biggles,
Thank you for replying again.
Yes the shared matches do.  Most to my Grand Aunt as descendants of her and her husband and their children

It's very frustrating when there is one match that leads straight to my Maternal Gt Grandfather's line to his parents' child then to them as MRCA. It by passes the above.
He must have some of the same DNA as K and Me but on his own he, S, only matches K

Because he  does not match them all he is different..

There is a very definite link with "K" to me 132 cm and to this person 'S" 56 cM  and
one other that is not as strong 46 cM.

I was hoping that I could differentiate between all the matches that are in this group to which side of the maternal link they are.    That being either my Gt Grandmother or my Gt Grandfather  but not my Aunts Husband's line.

I am pretty sure I have   proof of the Gt grandfather  but the others may lead to the Gr grandmother's family that I have absolutely nothing about.
In the mean time I will keep working on where K links to me and possibly more.

If I find anything I shall come back and update.
Thank you , you are all very kind and helpful

Cheers Essnell
