I have hit a brick wall my research,I have got back to Philip Evison who married Susanna Leeman in 1765 at Hundleby. One of my relations seems to think that he had been married prior to this and I would like to know whether anyone out there would be able to give guidance as to where I might start looking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Janis
Haven't found any children of Laurence and Elizabeth so far but I'll keep searching.
I suppose that you can't win them all-I have gone back on my father's side of the family to 1640's.
Thanks again for your guidance.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your help explaining the Bishop's Transcripts-it will certainly keep me busy searching through them and hopefully it will  be worthwhile.
Further to lynne j's point the confusion with his wife Sarah's maiden name seems to be a matter of how the hand writing has been interpreted-their children show Atkinson and their marriage shows Watson.
Once again thanks to all of you.

My gt.gt.gt Grandfather was Thomas Godfordson who married Sarah in 1808 in Sunderland.I am unable to find any reference to him other than his children.
I believe that he may have been a PRIVATEER and therefore I suppose that anything could have happened.
I have come across a marriage between Laurence Godferson and Elizabeth Wilson 0n 31 -03-1799 at St. Hilda's South Shields.
I think that Thomas and Laurence may have been siblings as it is such an uncommon name ;has anyone any ideas as to how I might prove/disprove this.
Many thanks in advance

I would be grateful if anyone could throw any light as to who Emma was-no  one in the family seems to know and my searches haven't thrown anything up.William was b1851 in North Crawley and Emma was also born in North Crawley. The 1881 Census shows them as marriedwith 5 children and living in North Crawley. The eldest child was b 1872.
Any help would be greatly appreciaated
