Charles Allen Firth, born Pilliga N.S.W.
Not much info about Charlie and am not even sure of his date of birth, the only records we have are ...
Private in the Otago Infantry Battalion D Company..
11263 Firth Charles Allen. Occupation shearer. Next of Kin Mrs Maggie Firth (mother) Pilliga. N.S.W.
We also have a casualty form - active service which reads as follows.
Regiment D Coy 12th Rfts
Reg nbr 8/4329 (then in pencil alongside 11263) Rank Pvt Name - Firth Charles Allen
Enlisted 13.1.16 Terms of service - 13.1.16 Service reckons from 13.1.16
1/5/16 Embarked on Ulimaroa. Wellington N.Z. 1/5/16 to Suez
Then to Tel-el-Kehr 17.7.16
Record goes through various stages and he ends up with renal colic at Heliopolis 19/5/19
Problem is
we have no idea what happened to Charlie after this...is it likely he would have been de-mobbed in N.Z. if so would there be a record of his return to Australia..we have no idea, we do know he was of Aboriginal extraction and he had gone to N.Z. shearing ? after that..NOTHING
Can anyone help with this please as I am at an absolute loss on this one.
All help much appreciated.
I am doing this for a friend and he has provided me with what he knows..not much....he has records of other relatives who also fought in the 14-18 war, one being noted as the first aboriginal killed in that conflict...trying to fill in gaps on his family tree.
Thanks for any help
