World War One / Is this photo reversed?
« on: Monday 27 July 15 17:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Hope you can help - would you say that this photo has been reversed?  I have been told the medals are on the wrong side. However I think on his belt buckle it says Pioneers, so if the writing is the right way round then so are the medals? Unfortunately the photo is not a very good scan so it's hard to say. Anyone know what regiment he might be with as the badges on his lapels are quite clear?

World War One / Medal Index Card - No mention of 1914 star?
« on: Thursday 15 May 14 21:06 BST (UK)  »
Hope you can help
We have several men listed on our village war memorial as having served and survived WW1 and we have found their medal index cards - we know from other records they disembarked in France in Sep 1914 but their card says they only have the victory and british medals and there is no mention of a 1914 star? Is this an ommission or were they not entitled?

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Horatio Wigley married Nottingham 1896
« on: Sunday 20 April 14 21:25 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find the name of the spouse of Horatio Wigley. Horatio was born 1867 in Macclesfield but by 1881 was living in Radford, Nottingham. When I look on freebmd Horatio appears as married 1896 Jun Nottm 7b 649 but his spouse has been completely missed off the freebmd. I think her first name was Harriett and that she may have been a Winfield or Wingfield ?

Horatio died in 1909 at Basford and it buried at Westwood St Mary's. He is not at home on the night of the 1901 census as I suspect he was a professional soldier and that he may have been serving in the Boer War as he named his son born 1900, Redvers Buller Wigley after the Boer War Commander in Chief.  Is it possible to find Horatio's Boer War Service record ?

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Metton War Memorial
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 19:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Dave
That is very kind of you. I will look forward to that.  V Jagg was a previous Reverend of Westwood, St Mary's near Jacksdale, Notts and we would like the information for our village website. There is no rush for the photos, please choose a day when the weather is best for you. kind regards Carol
email  cazmart99@madasafish.com  The Metton memorial is unusual, as just like the Jacksdale memorial it lists the served as well as the fallen.

Is there any kind person in the vicinity of Metton who might take a photo or two of the Metton war memorial - we are very interested in the fact that our past village Reverend's is named on it. We would  love to also see a photo of the plaque bearing his name which is V Jagg. Hope you can help. The photos would be used for our village heritage project.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Marshall and Bonsall Marriage 1910
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 21:37 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with a marriage. Frederick George Marshall married in 1910 Q4 Basford, Notts 7b 496 but his wife's details are not on freebmd at all. We believe that his wife's surname was Bonsall possibly either Mary or Eliza. I have looked on ancestry at the actual index page for 1910 Q4 and can't find her on there anywhere.  They lived in the Selston, Notts area.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
