Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Can anybody find Joshua Gricks in the census?
« on: Saturday 02 August 08 11:16 BST (UK)  »
Please could somebody have a look for this man in the census, he is proving to be very hard to find! :(

Joshua Robert Gricks
b.1875 in Norwich, Norfolk  -on his 1903 marriage cert his occupation is a Fish Merchant. He married in Ely, Cambs. His father was also called Joshua Gricks, also a Fish Merchant.

I have looked in the 1881 and 1901 census, but have had no luck in finding him, any ideas where he may be?

Many thanks,

Scotland / Missing death on Scotlandspeople, can anybody find it?
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 12:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would love to be able to download the death entry for my ancestor John Cumming, but I have searched and searched the scotlandspeople website and I just can't find it. I know the exact place and date of his death, but no results come up when I search. Is scotlandspeople incomplete or am I doing something wrong?

Here are the details if anybody else can find it?:

John Cumming died 12th January 1891 at Convener Street, New Elgin - age 69 years.

I know these details are correct because they come from an old family Bible, and they also match info I found on the Libindx website.

Does anybody have any ideas how I can find it? ???

Many thanks,
millerina

Lanarkshire / 1871 census lookup please
« on: Friday 02 May 08 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Please could somebody have a look for:

David Pollock b.1837 "Bogside" Glasgow

and also his father and stepmother:

John Pollock b.1816 Glasgow
Agnes Pollock b.1814 Glasgow

John and Agnes would probably be found at 5 Wallace Street, Glasgow? (they are there in 1872 and 1874). And David would probably be in the same area, which I think is Govan? I really want to know if David is married, so I can look for his marriage cert!

Many thanks in advance,

World War One / Which Regiment please?
« on: Monday 10 March 08 11:48 GMT (UK)  »
My Aunt found this lovely photo recently, and unfortunatley we have no idea who the people are! I know it is very hard to see, but is anybody able to identify the regiment from the cap badge - it might help me to work out who they are! Also, am I right in guessing that this photo is from WW1?

Many thanks if you can help!

Please could somebody date this picture for me? I am trying to work out who the people are, and all I know at the moment is that the man was called Bill! A date for the photo would be really helpful!

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1871 census lookup please
« on: Friday 01 February 08 13:27 GMT (UK)  »
Please could somebody have a look in the 1871 census for this family:

Harris Smith b.1813 Chesham Bucks
Ann Smith b.1821 Newport Monmouthshire
Caroline Smith b.1853 Limerick Ireland
David Smith b.1856 Cardigan Wales
John Smith b.1858 Cardigan Wales
Ellen Smith b.1859 Cardigan Wales

In 1861 they were in Chesham, Bucks - but they might turn up anywhere in 1871 as they seemed to travel around a lot!

Many thanks in advance,
millerina  :)
