Ok- so have i got this right regarding my photo?  is this photo of the Queens Westminsters-poss taken c 1900 in England, and when Frank transferred to the Sharpeshooters would have had a differant uniform, and a horse.??
I was told that his brother served in Sharpeshooters too, is there a list of Volunteers accessible on line do you know?? i have another photo I posted earlier-now, thanks to you all, identified as not Frank- there is nothing on the uniform, but is same general "style"-could I assume therefor a similar date as this QW photo??    ( If so I might have the brother)
Sally

Yes you are there now...I'll pop a pic of what he would have looked like in South Africa in a bit...

Yeomanry were properly known as the Yeomanry Cavalry, so yes...he bacame mounted.

As for his bro...have I seen it yet??

The medals are certainly Queens South Africa (3 bars) & Kings South Africa (2 bar) for the Boer War.

The photo is therefore after the war and no earlier than late in 1902 (when the KSA was issued).

Still a puzzle here!

What the bigger puzzle would be is why he is not wearing his QSA as he has entitlement, unless the pic was after he came back, and prior to being issued his medal...

You can tell it's a monday morning... I think I have made a comment or two on that one already....Doh!

I suppose I can be REALLY neckky and ask for the two pics to be scanned in / put up together so we can compare and contrast....

It MAY be that this one was taken prior to going off to South Africa, and prior to be being issued with Khaki Drill uniforms...Certainly mounted....and a bit new looking...certainly a lack of creasing anywhere on the uniform....

You can just imagine the scene... (I know it has happened to me enough...)

"oooh go on son, put your new uniform on and we'll have a picture of you in the back yard..."

Wow!
I've not been following the thread that closely, but it's certainly provoked some discussion.

Ignore the fact this is a WW1 link, but take a look at the badge at the top of the page and compare with the collar badges on your photo. I would say it's a match.

And I'd have to stick with my original dating for the photo of late-1902 at the earliest.
Based on the KSA visible with clasps for SA1901 and SA 1902.

I know I know...I got sooo carried away with the other int...

Alright... :P :P ;)

Aug 1903 as Sallys chap has no QSA on or any medals at all!!!

The badge is a close match, but wouldn't have the South Africa scroll on of course!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;D

This is a re enactment group, but the pic is clearer and in colour. They are a spot on representation of what your chap would have worn...
