Hi Erato,

Once they know the forum, then everyone has their own favourite "front door".
Those who only know the link www.rootschat.com without the extras for the different pages, will always land on the home-page.  So Trystan needs to design it to fit the "specs", as laid out by Google.

regards,
Bob

"NEWCOMERS to the site will automatically be directed to the "Home" page"

Well, yes, but newcomers aren't going to be cognizant of any changes.

It is not the changes - as changes - that are important here, but why the changes are being made at all. And Trystan has already explained that earlier, even including a link, so we can see for ourselves, why these changes are being made.

They don't need to be cognizant of any changes BUT the home page needs to comply with current specifications.

Once newcomers get to know the site, then they will make their own decisions, as we have over time.

I've now had a proper look at the Home page  :o :o  My only comment might be to move "Piecing it together -  Beginners" to the top of the page.  If you're new to the site, then that might be the most important introduction, rather than "Locations", "Photographs" or "Forces".  Purely a personal view  :-X

I don't often use the home page either.  How about having all of the pictures and board links along the top with Beginners made more prominent.  I think a lot of people tend to skip the blurb on most sites and jump right in!

I find the "latest topics"  a bit crowded. Is it possible to have fewer with a bit more space between each?

As I appear to be one of the few who mainly hang out on the 'Home' page, as it is now, I find the list of topics too crowded, difficult to click on due to being so small and cramped, and difficult to discern which is the topic title, and which is the board and what is the name of the member etc.

The way they appeared previously was fine, and presumably it will all eventually be reinstated as it was.

I know there is still work to be done, but I just thought I would add my thoughts due to being one of the few who spends the majority of their time on the home page.  :) The reason I like it is that you can see the new topics and new replies on all boards as and when they appear, and often you come across an interesting topic on a board you do not usually visit.  :)

I agree with Joy.  and like Joy, ever hopeful and the HOME page is my favourite .... it is where I start, cuppa at my right hand, scroll through the Home page, and then look at 'my replies', and then look at my own work to do list and then decide if RChat is the better option.  (self employed )..... and RChat regularly wins, but umm.... this home page is too crowded at the minute, and topic headings are taking two lines almost all the time at the moment..... so umm,  I am used to the previous way, and most likely I just need to de frag the grey cells and put order back, but at the moment it looks to be disordered.....
