Please Help Wilsons/Raeburns!!

Hi all,

Searching my family tree and have traced a Peter Wilson born in Fintray in 1863 to a Mary Wilson. Peter moved to Jamaica and that's where he had a son(William Adolphus) and then in 1924 my Grandad was born who eventually moved to London(im now in Scotland so weve gone full circle  ;D). Tracing has been extremely difficult and lots of conflicting information. Would love to know if anyone has anymore info on Peter and his mother Mary. I've had a look at ancestry.com and a possible mother of Mary could be Catherine Raeburn b.1816. Mary was born around 1845 but maybe earlier and I can't find a birth record for her. Would be great to know if there any living descendants of any Wilsons and Raeburns. Mary possibly had a brother named John Raeburn. Also any info on Peter Wilsons father would be a massive help.

Peter's birth certificate will give you more information.It can be viewed at a minimal cost from scotlandspeople website. It will give the the actual address where he was born at, and if his parent's were married, you will find out his mother's maiden name.

Do not trust anything you find online, especially on ancestry.com, unless it's an image of an original document.

Is that John Raeburn Wilson? Or is it John Raeburn, brother of Catherine Raeburn, not of Mary Wilson?

You need to view that 1863 birth certificate to find out the exact address where Peter was born, and who registered the birth.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The wedding doc from Jamaica says Marian Ward was 39 in 1901 ie: born 1862. It says Peter was 35.

Interestingly a similar named son is born to Marian  in 1911 , also in St. Thomas. The father is not listed on the document for some unknown reason.
